Title: Did I read ?
Post by: duggs on 09 February 2008, 22:25:20
Sorry guys..I've searched but didn't find something I read somewhere.

Did I read that Air Con WON'T kick in if the outside temperature isn't to a certain level.

I regassed the system in the summer and she worked fine but today, it wasn't getting cold, well no more so than the normal cold setting.

Could this be the case or is my Air Con buggered again. ?

Ermmmm Not sure.  Today it was 11 degrees and it didn't appear very cold to be honest..I just switched it on for a while as they say you should. To be honest the engine didn't "hop" either as I switched it on...

Watch the front of the compressor pulley as air conditioning is switched on, you see the clutch engage and the front section rotate.

If it doesn't, some signal must be disabling it, low temperature possibly, or low refrigerant pressure.

I would think the air temperature in the afternoon is high enough, what does your outside air temp display?

My 2.6 did a similar thing back in october, when the underbonnet temperature became reasonably high, the gas pressure must have increased just enough to enable the compressor sometimes. The upper pipe did not get very cold though.

Gas pressure/content had become very low.

I found a refrigerant pressure gauge, looks like the extending type of tyre gauge.
