What is it for/does it do?
-
Used by the
aircondition Climate Control to deliver bizarre ideal temperature inside the car.... it is the small knobby thing at the centre of the dash just at the dash meets the base of the windscreen.

agreed, especially on these spring mornings where it is 3 degrees and sunny, set the climate to 22 degrees and all it does is pipe through luke warm air beacuse the sun is so strong.
cover it up and all of a sudden you know what it is like to be the chicken in the oven on a sunday morning ;)

Sun sensor has no impact on temperature, it just affects the direction of air....

So I got it wrong... either way my Climate Control on my facelift has a mind of it's own, I never quite figured it out. The simpler aircon on my previous Omega worked much better - it blew warm air or cold air as and when i wanted it to...

You need the climate upgrade!
The systems are oretty much the same but, the facelift setup gives a greater level of directional control.

I have noticed a big change in the climate between my mini facelife and my current facelift model. The old one used to consistently try to freeze me solid using random vents. The new one keeps me nice and comfortable at 22 deg but or some reason insists on pumping too much warm air into the footwells. so I have to select the face level and screen vent outlets only.
Probably something wrong with it but I cant be bothered to get it looked at...

Marks comment about the climate upgrade is a valid one.
on a day with extreme temp when the climate was switched on it used to create a tornado in the car, the fans were very violent.
After the u/g was done it is alot smoother and feels like a better controlled system

Agreed, get the climate tech2 upgraded.
Makes a huge difference, I remeber 'selling' it to Jay at Newent!
Before it was done, there was frequent button presses to redirect air, reduce fan speed, now just set the temp and forget.

were you on commission that day? ;D ;D

Can you explain the quote below, i run a facelifted 2000reg 2.5 elite.
Also, on nearside main dash vent outlet, a couple of the angle adjustable flaps (the up and down flaps) have become unattached from the angle adjuster!!
Can they be relocated somehow?

Can't help with your flaps...
But you can have the vauxhall computer - tech2, such as used by the boy and marks dtm calib, plugged into your car.
This reads fault codes from all on board systems, and can update them if new software has been released - common ones being gearbox, climate, instument panel.
Both the Gearbox update and the climate update are regarded as well worth having.
Before the climate update, the fans always seemed to harsh, and was like sitting in a gale, so constantly trying to turn them down, redirect air, which the settings dont last long for. After the update, the whole system feels much improved, the fans arn't as harsh and it seems to keep a stable temperature much easier, whole system just feels 'nicer'.
Well worth doing.
(Gearbox update if you are interested makes changes smoother, and the box less jumpy, also feels more powerful)
(Instument update - no noticable difference ;D )

Hi. Does anyone else have the problem where unless the temp is set to 18 degrees the car is just too hot? Any ideas why this would be?
Thanks,
Rob.

Either your climate needs regassing, or some sort of vacuum leak somewhere?
Both our prefacelift MV6, and facelift CDX are cool enough at 19 - 20 depending on mood.

Thanks for that I've just had the aircon regassed. In my previous cars I could set the climate at 22 degrees and it was nice and comfortable. I would have expected that it would be similar in this, at 22 degrees I feel like I'm in an oven!
How do I check for leaks etc? Cheers.

iirc Vauxhall recommend to to set it to 21 and leave like that all year round (not in Eco mode). They claim it is the ideal room temperature or something like that.
However 21 on the Omega is indeed quite warm, and I said before the thing seems to have a mind of its own anyway, so i wouldn't worry too much about it. If you get chilly air when the system is on LO, and warm air when it is on HI, then you should be happy with it... everything in between the LO and HI doesn't really count. >:(

And yes, TB upgraded my aircon ECU with his Tech2 (at least we both think he did)

22 would be uncomfortable warm in either of ours, but everyone has there own prefered temp.
In maint guides there is a picture of vac pipe layouts, may be worth following this, there have been instances of incorrect routing causing speed sensitive aircon!

Would that be cold air when driving and warm air when stood still by any chance??
-
iirc Aircon changed at 4000 rpm - rear multiram and hbv vacuum pipes swapped.

So that's what the "Small knobby thing" is. I've been wondering for ages and kept forgeting to ask.
