are they known for failing/going "weak" ??
or should I be looking for blockages beyond the obvious??? (nozzles)

As per my post in the wanted section max.
If the previous owner used a weak anti-freeze mix, they clog up easily.
There is no gauze to the headlight jets... so make sure they are clear

Crud in the jets, pre mini facelift - replace as they rot inside, facelift remove from car, remove pipe and suck clean YUK. mini facelift - dunno

Are you talking windscreen (gauze in pump) or headlight (likely knackered extender bits)
-
it's weird.... I spent an hour filling with strong mix of cleaner/water tonight.... and trying to blow it thru....
the reason i suspect the pump may be weak, as that at the moment you actuate the switch, there's a weakish pulse of fluid , but then it fizzles out very VEYR quickly if you hold the control as if for a sustained burst.....
that says to me either that the pump is weak or the switch is worn out, at least instinctually anyway....
but removal and clean they will get in the near future.... headlamp jets wash, but pressure and spray plume doesn't seem as strong as it is on my old one....

I changed the pump..
first jet nozzles are clogged..I cleaned a few times..nope..
changed them first ... after a year pump kaput..changed also..

Make sure that the pipe that goes to the washers is not kinked or trapped on the passenger side near the scuttle, I had the same problems, and found the pipe trapped.

Gunge settles a bit, hence the pulse
