Went to drive to work today, and I couldn't unlock the car! No response at all to the remote (although the red light came on). And I've recently replaced the battery - so I don't think it's a problem with the remote.
Eventually I tried the key in the lock, and that wouldn't turn either - is that normal?? How can I get back into my car?! :o
Fortunately I now have a "spare car" 8-) - so I was able to get to work. Perhaps the Miggy is complaining because I've been ignoring her? :-/

Hi, the key will turn in lock but it is very stiff, you will almost feel as though it is going to snap, but it will unlock, maybe a spray of lubricant in there first wouldn't do any harm.
-
The key WILL turn and open the door .. its just a very hard turn, especially if you "dead locked" it with the remote first ....
If you feel like its gonna break, the only other way, providing you can, is in through the boot, "kick" the "ski panel" down, then drop a seat and crawl through.. :(
I did that before I knew about the very stiff key part .... not fun .. :(
(Not sure how you do the crawl through on a facelift with no way of manually opening the boot .....)

wrong key...?
if the red light is coming on on the fob, could be that your car battery is flat?
-
i take it there is no lock on the tailgate, like on prefacelift estate?
Baz, it should turn! Just be very stiff....
Danny, red light is normal on the remote, indicates you have pressed the button.

This is facelift estate. Tried the key in the tailgate - but also very stiff...
Will try turning the key a little harder when I get home... :-/
Thanks for all the prompt replies.

i know, hence me suggesting the car battery might be flat, since the fob works

Drivers door is best bet, especially if deadlocked. The tailgate lock gets clogged up solid with very fine road dirt, if you dont know that it works you are more likely to break the key in the tailgate than in the drivers door.
Tip of the Day.....check you key works in all locks occasionally to keep them free.
Also its not unknown for a new ignition barrel to have been fitted at some point without changing the door locks.....Have you all checked your keys really do fit the doors?

sorry did not make it clear, ment is there one like pre-facelift. There is one on mine, just was not sure about the facelift. Cause the saloons have the locks removed on facelift.

Lift the door handle and try to turn the key. It's much easier and you wont break the key.
-
If you deadlock doors, the key will be stiff, but will unlock. If you're too scared (it does need a LOT of effort), let me know and I can pop down the road :)
-
Thanks Jaime... :y I should be home by about 16:30, so will have another try then.

Hold on...... when did you get a VX220!!!?
Can I have a go? :D

I'm in! Finally managed to loosen the tailgate lock, and then sent my daughter climbing over to the front seat to pull the bonnet release. Of course, as soon as I got the battery on charge the alarm went off - but by then there was sufficient power to be able to unlock the car. It's now on charge overnight. Thanks for all the helpful comments.

I wondered when someone would spot that... 8-)

We'll see about that one day, maybe... Perhaps after you've done my cambelt in the summer... ;)

SNAP!!!, Just tried to get into my MV6 (Facelift) Battrey's completely Flat (the 12v one), I know about this turn it hard because I got in Miggy's b4 like this but mines having none of it, if you turn it really hard it will click but still deadlocked.
I assume its because of the dead battery, I'm going to try tomorrow (too cold now) with some jump leads if I go underneath and connect +12v to the Poss on starter motor will that get back to the battery (or is there a relay in the way? or any other ways of poping the Bonnet without breaking something?

Erm, no, not quite - still sitting in a cardboard box in the study... :-[
Got another 10k left before the cambelt's due, which is why I said summer. And with a new toy to play with, that 10k might take me a while longer... ;)
