Title: Coolant Loss
Post by: Chewy on 16 February 2008, 11:31:59
Hi All,
Whilst driving my car the aux belt came off, i did not notice until the temp was off the scale then pulled over, since then the car is using allot of coolant, when i started it this morning with the bonnet open I noticed steam from the rear of the engine on the drivers side bank, could this be the hbv has gone or could it be the head gaskets
Thanks for your replies in advance
Chris

Sounds like HBV, its exactly where you said, behind the drivers side bank.

Try and feel the pipes and see if there wet.

Does it still run ok? I would be a bit worried if the temp went off the scale  :'(

Check the oil and coolant for mayo. Also, when engines running, look for bubbles of air in the coolant expansion tank.

Hi Both,
The car still runs fine, the temp never goes above half way.
Going on whats been said previous i`ll have to get myself a set of small hands to feel the pipes, thanks for the replies
