Title: Serious coolant loss
Post by: Alex on 18 February 2008, 19:14:14
Got a 2001 3Ltr MV6 with 95000 miles on the clock.  I average about 40 miles per day and have to add about a litre of coolant every 3 days.  No obvious signs of a leak either under the bonnet or inside the vehicle and no mayo sludge on the dipstick or filler pipe and cap.  The engine runs perfectly with no misfires or lack of power and returns about 24.5 mpg.  I thought possible head gasket failure into cylinders rather than oil channels ???  Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.  Any harm done if I just keep topping it up  (got a source for anti-freeze mix so cost not a problem)?

Best to find and fix mate.
Have you checked the HBV?
Are the carpets wet inside the car?
Any water in the V area of the engine??

Most people on here will say the same as above, check HBV, Reservoir and Cap, Oil Cooler Plate.
Do you not see any water on the floor?

Would think that would be a heater matrix.
