Post by: retrovauxhall on 17 February 2008, 19:09:27
Hi wonderd if someone can steer me in the right direction , my car went in for a stainless exhaust on friday and since getting it back i seem to ave lost power , i had both cats taken out and someone said to me its sounds like its needs re-maping?

also im considering aving it chipped with super chips has anyone had this done or any other type of chipping and do you recommend it?

thanks in advance for all your help!

The V6 lumps are very sensitive and require a certain level of back pressure by fitting a free flowing exhaust you will loose some low down performance but gain at higher rpm as the engine can rev more freely i would recommend a remap on a rolling road as this can be taylored to your cars set up things like superchips are simply a remap but are the same every time and are usually done on a standard vehicle to gain optimal performance from a standard set up.
Hope this helps :y

Without the cats low rpm torque values will shift upwards..

And you will consume more fuel..

And for high rpm power gain is negligible like 4-5 hp if the car is

healthy..

My car is fitted with an m-tek chip and powerflow s/s exhaust (cat back), and power gains from both was significant....

The chip was recommended on here - I think it cost around £135 - and I think m-tek is/was also a member on here....

Stu

(PM sent with m-tek number if you want to check with him... :y)

But if it is a facelift 2.6 then unfortunately M-tek don't do chips for them, you can't chip the 2.6.

The engine management on the 2.6 also has post-cat lambda sensors which detect cat efficiency, so I'm not sure what they will have done with them if they have removed the cats. At the very least, the engine management should now have illuminated the emissions light!  :-/
