Ok, might be a stupid question but what flows through the inside of the oil cooler that is connected at either side by two pipes, Is it oil or coolant?
-
engine oil
-
Ahhh, I see.... and the oil cooler covering plate with sealent, seals in the coolant.
Thanks

It works like your car radiator, except that it is filled with oil instead of water, as air passes through it cools the oil. Hot oil goes in one side, and cooler oil comes out the other.

when I buy the car..was leaking coolant from the oil cooler sealant ..After changing the cooler it started to loose oil from the connections ;D
after a bit tightening of nuts problems solved ;D

I think I might have the same problem, but I'm hoping its the coolant bridge seals thats leaking.

on omegas leakage areas are
HBV
coolant bridge
oil cooler
thermostat
and
heater matrix are most common as mine did >:(

Or if you are very unlucky....Core Plugs

If its the oil cooler cover plate sealant thats away, is it better to get a new plate and sealent, or reuse the old one and reseal?
-
clean the sealant with sand paper and reseal it..No need to buy another plate..

What else do I need to buy, I guess I'll have to remove the oil pipes connected to the oil cooler. Do I need to buy new seals for this. What about the coolant bridge, does that have to be removed?
-
for oil cooler plate we use liquid gray sealant (not a ready one)
and unfortunately the seals are not sold seperately for coolant bridge I
changed it completely..

Changed the seals on my coolant bridge, they are a washer with a rubber seal built into them......

The two pipes you can see are the oil feed and return to the oil cooler. The oil cooler sits in the engine coolant which is sealed in by sealant around the plate if that makes sense :y

Hi
Where does this "air" come from. Its an oil to water heat exchanger not oil to air.

Ok I've managed to take some pictures of my coolant leak and it looks like the thermostat is leaking.

It seems to be running along the edges of where the oil cooler cover sits, I've taken a good look with my UV light and thankfully it doesn't seem to be coming from the cooler covering plate.

BUT I did notice that there is some coolant on one of the oil cooler bolts as seen in this picture. I thought oil would come from there?

Any info would be welcomed, thanks

Its worth re-sealing the stat to block face (I use the same sealent as used on the oil cooler plate) as the early stat seals are pretty bloody useless.
The small quantity of coolant around the cooler pipe I would say is a 'herrang rouge'......

Would it be worth the hassle of changing the thermostat?
If so how much is a thermostat and can you get it on TC?
How easy is the thermostat to change?
How does the thermostat come, is it included in the pipe?
What parts need to be changed, seal, sealent, new bolts?
a lot of questions, but its really appreciated before I break into my piggy bank again :'(
