Hiyaa
I've just bought an Omega 2.0 16v CDX Auto saloon on an S plate. Absolute bargain and not a bad runner at all, once I have my head round the automatic gearbox!!
This thread is continued from the welcome forum.
My little problems list I need to iron out:
Noticed a few fluid spots under the car this morning, one near the boot, towards the right hand side, one or two near the dead center of the car. Anyone know where these could be coming from and whether its something to worry about?
The sunroof appears to not work although looks to be in great nick. Could it be that a fuse is blown, or just that nobodys used it and its stuck shut?
Also I have some spares I need to get,but I'll PM some breakers.
I'll keep this updated as I sort through them.
Cheers guys!!

1) would not take too much notice of these, unless the one near the boot smells of petrol, with the recent frost its hard to tell. One near the front, is probably from the air-con compressor which is normal
2) Try re-setting the sun roof, press and hold the sun roof dial, don't rotate it, push it upwards and hold, until its cycled though all its movements, sun roof always needs resetting if the battery has gone flat/been replaced.

sorry john,it was very late :-[ should be fuse 33...also posted in newbies

Genius!
Needed a helping hand returning all the way but prob cos the engine was off. All working fine now!
Yeah I'll make sure its not the tank - will have to check in the am. Looked more like oil or brake fluid though at a glance. Sort of positioned where the exhaust pipe is but on the opposite side of the car (drivers side rear). Yeah quite near the petrol tank.... :-/
Thanks for this!

Sounds like a weaping diff, they do tend to leak a bit. Keep an eye on it.

Cheers - you mean the massive 30 amp...no its fine. New fan motor required then?

might be worth checking circuit(connections etc) before buying a new fan .........my fan wouldnt work on my old senator and it turned out to be the switch,so its always worth checking before spending :y
-
if you have no fans, its possble the fan controller has gone fubar, check the condition of scuttle drain, if its blocked then its prob a new fan controller :(
-
Tunnie sorry mate I'm an Apple Mac wiz, I'm pretty pants with cars, whats the scuttle drain?
-
tunnies offline so i shall have a go at explaining, the plastic panel that sits underneath the windscreen(scuttle)has a drain at each side where the water runs away.this gets blocked up with leaves and other crud which stops the water draining and the water ends up getting into electrical parts in that area.if you lift the bonnet the drain holes near the bottom of the screen are easy to see. :y...tunnie is back on line now and explained it better than i could ;D ;D

I got a windows PC and a Mac Mini as a media server ;)
Scuttle drain, passenger side, beneath the wipers, its the bit that lets rain water drain out and not go into the engine bay. There is a plastic flap on the passenger side, you may need to pull up the rubber edge to open it.
This is where the pollen filter also sits, the vent should be clear down the bottom, stick a hose pipe in there, it should rush out as fast as it goes in :y
-
Cheers guys, I'll do it when I get in and have a hosepipe. Seen where you mean and opened it up but I'll do it properly when I get in. So if I *were* to need a switch or fan, how much am I looking at and how easy is it to fit? Also I dunno if its related, but the passenger side climate control switch is buggered - the LCD is kaput. Could this point to the fact it may be the switch?
Tunnie/albitz - Ta v much for your help people, I don't know what I'd have done if I didn't find OOF - prob ended up buying too much and changing everything trial and error! If I can return the favour with any Mac support or design let me know.
Loving the new sunroof BTW, hehe 8-)

No worrys, climate pannel dead too?? Humm is it the digital one?
Digtial ones has + and - buttons to increase power and buttons to select the direction of air, rather than rotating dials.
If the whole pannel is dead, suggests a fuse! Which is good because fan controllers are not cheap (£100+ i think) and a bugger to fit.
-
Digital one - although I think they work, its just the liquid crystal from the LCD has gone - it looks like its been cracked. The drivers one works and all other buttons appear to function, you just cant see the readout, just the yellow light shining through where some sort of impact killed the screen. I'll get a piccie in a bit!
To be honest I don't mind paying someone to fix the controller if its that - apparently its intermittent but I'm yet to see it work. I'm saving 160 quid a month sending back my Golf GTi to Black Horse finance in exchange for an owned outright Omega (ooO!) so its all good and moving forward.

Right then, the scuttle drain....
I lifted up the cover, shone a torch, and I can see a wiring loom disappearing into a hole. Said hole is submerged in about 3inches of water which is going nowhere. Is this the famous scuttle drain blockage? I can't see any other holes apart from the one the wiring loom is disappearing into, so need some more guidance as to how to clear it. Any takers? Thanks in advance.

Roll up right sleeve!! ;D
There is a hole at the bottom somewhere for it to drain out from ....
-
lol...
cheers. Whats the danger of damaging this loom? can I shove something down it?

The grommeted hole for the loom is a different hole from the drain hole. My drain hole is just behind the grommet. (just braved the cold to look)
-
Thanks mate appreciated. Scratched my arm to fook but who cares, whoosh!! Out came the water like the car gave birth to a mud pie!
Still no blower though, reckon its cos the loom is still wet?
I hear 'hummmm....phut phut phut phut' as if the fans gonna turn, then thats it. game over. Can replicate by moving the fan direction to its different positions (windscreen, driver, feet etc).
Is my fan shafted?
Ta

might be worth drying it off with a hairdryer and then having another try....you never know :-/
-
Aye, I thought that too. Being a muppet though I thought I'd check. Weird, I've got loads of initiative until it comes to motors!
-
Speed controller will be toast due to it getting wet. Source a replacement.
-
Cheers for that. I'd better get hunting...is the part number Y1011857? Its a prefacelift for what its worth. How much we talking and is it an easy job?

no substitute for experience :-[

Nice work you lot, over to the wanted section then! Cheers guys, the detective work begins :'(
I can easily handle it though, as it was a bargain plus I like the car a lot. Only had it 24hrs (same as my auto driving skills) and I'm learning fast what to do with it :y
-
Alrighty then..
The leak. This is what I can see in the morning center rear, is it petrol? The fact I reported earlier as being on the right must have been cos it was on 2 wheels on the pavement and its a long way down!
Can't smell to tell cos I have a bunged up hooter :-/
Note the redundant Golf top left ;D
-
I'd give on that mate and trade it in for that nice blue golf over the road ;D
I really doubt its petrol - looks too far back for starters (unless you drove forward.
If its oily its probably diff oil but I'd be surprised if it was dripping. A look underneath will verify that - it will be leaking from either prop shaft or the drive shaft connections most likely.
If its more liquid I suspect its condensation. Does it reappear during the day?
-
hehe I know - the golf has served me well and is a marvellous car, 1.8T 150brake, looks cool, a great fun drive especially with michelin F1 tyres on, but alas its still needing work and clocked up 113k so the value is plummeting. Also its £160/mo versus nil for the Omega, and being a self employed designer if I have a quiet month I still have a car at the end of it!
But back to the new beast on the block - the oil/whatever spots stretch down the length of the car (minimally), prob makes sense for it to be going along the shaft to be honest, obviously mainly seen at the back there. It appears every time its parked up, I've smelt it and can't determine what it is, not petrol though. The pic was taken whilst stationery, I've plans to move it and take a second pic if I can't get to the bottom of it.
Anything to worry abouut immediately though?
