Had the plugs, leads, fuel filter and Cam covers changed a few weeks ago and since then its started to "Judder" under load. unless its just a coincidence (did i spell that right?) it would appear while its raining or after a down pour. Do i have an Iffy dis pack that doesn't like the damp or shouldi be looking elsewhere?
cheers..

No water in the plug wells is there?
-
Errrr havn't loooked at that! how would rain water get in there without leaving bonnet open?
-
What year / engine is your car?
Been several instances of water either getting in through wiper spindle, or back flowing where 2 bits of scuttle drain meet, and dripping, through spounge onto the engine.
-
its a 1999 pre facelift V6
-
its something that has definately been more common on the facelifts, with coil per plug setups, but could be worth checking.
Sounds just like what happened to our 2.2..
Juddering like hell, EML on, gearbox in limp as well for us.
Just realised you are only up the road from me! Saltney here!

Have you checked for fault codes at all?

Hey Keith,
`Bout 6 months ago I had a sudden onset judder (when engine under load, but idle ok); `felt for all the world like 2 of the 6 weren`t firing.....but no EML light showing!
I tried all the obvious: Plugs/leads/vacuum-leaks and all.
It turned out out be the DIS pack (a real 'blighter' to see/get-at on the V6): it had burst open like a used-firework, split open so I could see right-through to the windings!.....although the juddering was there at all times (wet or dry): I figured that ANY damp/rain/splashing would make the juddering considerably worse.
It is a HORRID job to change the V6 DIS pack; I must say, but the new one transformed the performance and economy of the engine, so it must`ve been on the way out for a while! :y

dont know how to check for fault codes unfortunatley although it'll be on here somewhere....
has an intermittent idling fault too which was there before the engine work was done...
No E.M.L light showing. Just been for a 10 mile run just now hence the delay in replying to this thread and it didn't miss a beat!
is it an easy enough job to replace the dis pack if the plenium chamber is removed (if it turns out to be that)?
-
yes, you can use a paperclip stuck in the diag socket to flash out any codes on the eml light, instuctions in maint guides (I think)
I use the cheapo tech2 myself
Dis pack meant to be very fiddly to change :(
-
Rainwater can get in through a badly fitted lower windscreen seal, can get onto dispack and fill up plug wells.

Paperclip test :

note to admin : perhaps paperclip test should be a (hated) sticky?
can take some finding

crazy thing is that i can't check for dampness in plug wells coz its blummin raining. Now i have something to go on i'll be checking for that when we have a dry spell....
How much woul i expect to pay to for labour to change the dis pack if it was that?
-
I had this on mine all through december, reaplced pllugs, leads, dis pack and rocker gaskets several times, it was only when i had the bonnet up in the rain that i noticed water dripping down the back of the engine and closer inspection of what i though was oil in the plug wells was actually water.
The reason it was leaking is because a previous owner had bent back the metal lip where the 2 halves of the scuttle meet in order to make access to the rear passenger side spark plug essier (i presume) so the scuttle didn't fit at all. I've bent it back as best i can and used copious amounts of silicon to try and seal it and so far it does seem to be holding.
Defo check for water before you go replacing stuff several times over :)

all fingers are now pointing to water i think..
Feel better about that now as seems to be an easy fix.
Thanks to all that helped me today.....
