Title: Noisy Engine.
Post by: podd37 on 23 February 2008, 15:08:48
Hi all. New here. Have a '98 2.5v6 petrol with 116k on the clock. I was driving last week and after about an hours run stopped to get a coffee. When I came out and restarted the engine it sounded like a tractor. No warning lights, no misfire that i can feel or see but niosy as hell. Seems to come from the r/h/s bank, mainly from the head, as I sit in it. Car still drives, but after 1500rpm feels very tight and the noise is awful. I checked the belts and all seems ok. Any ideas? Oh and the oil is changed every 6k. Please help as I am stuck!!

The silver round thing above the left hand manifold when viewed from under the bonnet towards the rear, should be mounted securly to the manifold, mine could be lifted away by hand...

£20 from the scrappers, Vectra one fits but the wiring needs to be extended on the omega to fit

Ah that bit!! Fraid I'm not that lucky. It's there alright and tight. Unfortunately this seems very internal, like a lack of oil at the top end.

its also possible that you have a leak from the right exhaust manifold gasket..its a standard problem for V6..

Hey Cem. Unfortunately I have had the leaks, both sides and am happy that I have cured those!! These noises sound terminal (for which read expensive) unfortunately.
