I have discovered that sump pan is porous and oil is seeping through, is this a common thing to happen to a five year old car,as it is the first one I've ever had, Is it advisable to fit second hand or new?

I don't think they are very expensive, I think James replaced one on his V6 recently and i'm sure it was something like £20. :-/

The sump on my car is extremely rusty and it's less than 4 years old so it appears to be a problem on some of these cars.
I was thinking of replacing it until I looked at the work involved, it appears that you have to drop the subframe and possibly disconnect part of the steering to remove it!
For the time being I have scraped it down and rust treated it but it looks to be wafer thin in places.
Some years ago my son's Fiesta sump pan rusted through and I used an epoxy resin repair material from Halfords which worked perfectly for the 2 years he owned the car.
If my sump springs a leak I will use the same stuff to repair it.

Crikes, i can't believe you'd need to change a sump so soon on one of the late Omegas. Maybe i'm being a bit mardy as mine is dripping with fresh oil at the moment >:(
PS: I thought Meegas stoped in 2003, how come you got a 2004 model?

The car was built December 03 but not registered until April 04 for some reason.
The leasing company I bought it from racked up 90,000 on it, perhaps that is why the sump rotted.

Thanks for comments but was wondering if resin repair is possible while oil is seeping through? :-/
