Ok guys n gals, need some help
Today I have fitted new Aux belt (no problems) cleaned breather system and changed the plugs ( rear pass one was a pig to get out).
Put it all back together, everything back as should be. Fired her up and !!!!! very strong eggy smell and seems to be missing on a cylinder. And throaty >:(
Thought it might be due to residual carb cleaner, so took car for a run. Not as smooth as she usually is, slow on the uptake
When I came back I checked the exhaust for smell, and noticed, hair, back box knackered, need new one. So that could be cause of eggy smell? and being throaty.
But would it cause a miss-fire? If not is there a quick ways of isolating which cylinder is the problem, without taking it all apart again.

Could try removing each plug lead in turn until you find one that makes no difference.
It goes without saying that you should run it as little as possible until resolved to protect the cats.
To see if the exhaust blockage is making a difference try starting it with the Lambda sensors removed. I doubt a 1 cylinder misfire, if that's what it is, will be due to a blockage.
Could also try the trick of a rubber glove over the tail pipe and make sure it blows up, and off, quickly when starting.

Did you disonnect the plug leads on the DIS pack?
-
Nope, pulled the leads off the plugs.
Don't understand what I've done wrong, changed no end of plugs in my time, never usually a problem.
Just checked all the connections again, all appears to be ok, everything plugged in.

Wonder if a lead was brittle, and pulling it off has damaged it :-/

LAST YEAR MY DAD HAD HIS CAM COVER GASKETS CHANGED AND AFTER IT HAD A MISSFIRE, IT WAS A PLUG LEAD THAT WAS FAULTY, CHANGED THE FAULTY ONE AND THE CAR RAN FINE. :y

Any leads damaged?
All leads fitted correctly and fully inserted?
Engine fired with leads disconnected at any time stressing the DIS pack?
Engine breathers are connected back up properly?

1 yes, did one plug at a time, all seated ok
2 no
3 fat 2 into 1, one, straight forward, small left 1 connected near fat 1(if that makes sense)
Plug leads been in situ fo a long time. Just been quoted by VX nearly £200 :o :o shall have to do some ringing round, would be worth changing them

I take it everyting is on and leak free?
Was the plenum removed?, has is it been re-fitted correctly, no trapped/missing O rings?
Brake servo vac pipe connected up properly, no damage?
Idle valve seated correctly?
Any load hissing noises?
Breather bridge fitted correctly with new seals?
Sorry for all the questions, just running through the things in my head that I would check.

No leaks
Yes, seated ok no missing/trapped rings
Brake servo, (that the one that connects to back of plenum) if so all connected and ok
Idle valve seated, has electrical connector in and is connected to bagpipe. (was cleaned)
no loud hissing
breather bridge (black thing on plenum?) fitted correctly, didn't use new seals. I cleaned the breather sys last year no problems, has gone back the same this time.
that's ok, any ideas appriciated :y

Yes, thats the one....
Can you measure the resistance of the plug leads, they should be from about 2K to 10K dependent on length.
-
I assume the plugs are all fitted and torqued down correctly....

I can do if you can tell me how :)

The natural order of my Ying and Yang has been restored, I have found out what the problem was with the misfire.
After checking over what I had done yesterday, I came to the conclusion that the problem lay with a duff plug lead. So decided to check each to see if I could isolate the sucker.
Out came the wiper assembly, so I could get a better look at the dis pack ( fat chance, it's like the black hole of Calcuter down there!! ;D)
Had to do it by feel, and I found that no6 lead was not connected to the dis pack. Strange as I had gone nowhere near it before, could it be that simple, erm, yes, purrs like a kiten now. Must have dislodged it whilst working on that bank.
Any hoo, all is now well :) :) :)

oh the joys of motoring, well done for finding fault, have fun now
