Hi again chaps!!
My car is still playing up, still coming up with the 19 code on the paperclip test.
I have so far;
Cleaned the IACV and the breather jet as described on this forum,
replaced spark plugs,
replaced the camshaft sensor (that code was up but now gone)
replaced the crankshaft sensor (that code is still up)
Found the cam timing was out so reset the belt to correct marks
AND STILL THE PROBLEM IS THERE!!
Car still sounds as if the timing is out when trying to start and being a idiot to get going and that bloody code is still up with the paperclip test!!!
Really starting to get to me now! please can anybody advise on what to check next before I start smoking again!!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(
Thanks chaps

Try taking the battery leads off for half an hour or reset the ignition 25-30 times i.e turn ignition on to position 2 and let the airbag light go out then turn off and repeat 25-30 times. With any luck, your fault codes just need reset. I've heard people say the taking the battery leads off doesn't work but it's worked for me loads of times and I found it more effective than using the ignition method.
Other thing - did you use geniune vauxhall crank sensor? Ones of ebay can be a bit dodgy.

how far out was the cam timing ?? if too far could of bent a valve bud !! :(
-
proper vauxhall sensor, cam timing was 1 tooth out on the exhaust side :(

Double check the sensor is seated correctly in the block, when I fit them I insert them and rotate them a few times to make totaly sure its fully home.
Failing that, trace the wiring back to the ECU checking as you go and making sure its not to near the likes of the alternator etc.....
What year is it.....guessing its quite an early one?

Also check the main earth cable.........

Its a 1995 model, I will have a look at those bits this afternoon after I have got the cortina back from the MOT man.
Thanks for the tips guy's, I shall report back if it works.
