I was wondering if there is a way to change the position of the dipstick?
I changed my engine a while back on my Omega B 8 valve, and the only available engine I could find was from a Vectra.
The "problem" is that the Vectra is a front wheel drive, but my omega is a back wheel driven, so the engine sits differently under the bonnet. I had to transfer my old sump to the new engine so it would fit in the car, but then the dipstick is positioned on the wrong side of the engine for an accurate read of the oil level. It now reads from the shallow end:)

What I would do is next time you change your oil, check where it comes up to on the dipstick, and mark it, say with a file.
Hope this helps

Don't know how easy it's going to be if your engine's back in (near impossible I'd imagine). I have a cavalier engine in mine and have probably suffered the same problems you have experienced fitting yours. There is a space in the correct part of the engine and from what I remember you simply swapped them round. This was not too much of a problem when the engine was still sitting on a hoist but if it's back in situ I could imagine this to be near impossible. The two engines I swapped were the 2.0 litre 16v. Out of curiousity did you need to taper the threads on the block to get the old sump on?

I'm not sure what the threads are (I'm not native to the english language :) ) but what I had to do was:
Remove the sump from the Vectra engine and the oil pump pick- up/strainer, and fit the pick- up/strainer and sump from the Omega engine to the Vectra engine. And had to check the pick- up/strainer for clogging. But it was quite easy, since the engines are identical, but the Omega sump looks different. It's shallow in one end and deep in the other (the dipstick goes in the deep end), but the sump on the Vectra looked like a tub (deep all over).
Did that answer your question? What are the threads? (sorry, if stupid question..)

Albus
Oversettelsen er
thread = tråd
Håper at hjelper

Norsk?? Her??

Alt godt

:) I'm really impressed!:) (I laughed for quite a while when I read the answer).
No, I didn't have to change or alter anything on the block (if I understood correctly), The engines are identical. I only had to move the engine mounting brackets and the sump (and transfer a few parts, that I didn't come with the Vectra engine) so it would fit for a back wheel driven car.
Thanks for the translation! I thought for a while you were Norwegian:)

Curious about the threading on the block because the two engines I used were slightly different. My old engine had the counterweights and the new (donor) engine did not. Sumps were different and needed to swap old sump onto new engine. The old sump could not be fitted onto the block because the threads were different sizes so I had to use a taper tap and finisher. I was wondering if you encountered the same problem but obviously not.

Note that Albus has a 2.0 8V and a Vectra is the name given to a Cavalier under the Opel brand, whereas the Vectra over here, and your car run a 2.0 16V (X20XE)

Ahh, thanks for clearing that up Andy I was just curious. My engine swap was a bit of a nightmare and was hoping I could lend a hend if he encountered the same problems as I did.
