Front drivers side, how easy is it to remove, once the door card is off? - Does the glass need to come out?
Since i have decided to keep the 2.2 over the 3.0 I would like to get this sorted :)

Having struggled to remove the driver's door locking mechanism last week, I'd imagine at least the air bag has to come out (half dozen-ish pop rivets) to get enough access. I recon the glass can stay put though.

The window stopped working last year, the only time i need it is when going into carparks ect....
We established last year it was the motor that had gone...

thought we established it was the switch pack?
I'll stand corrected, seeing as I have had much Stella since then...

I seamed to remember we took the door card off and measured the volts on the motor. It seamed to point to that...

Reason I thought it was switchpack was because I suggested doing to scrappy and getting one off that facelift, but it had gone by then? As said, I may be mistaken....
Might be worth rechecking...

I was on TBs drive when we were investigating this - and it pointed to the switch rather than the motor
Try the switch from your Dad's 2.2?
Failing that, the motor is an easy, if not a bit fiddly, job. I will gladly help you :y

I need to take the drivers door card off on my 98 2.5 elite. what I'd like to know is, after reading Andy-B post, is the air bag in the door, because in mine there is a panel on the side of the drivers seat with the words "airbag"

There's one in the seat & one in the door too. It's a year thing, that someone far knowedable than I will answer in more detail! ;)
You're OK if you're just taking the panel off though, all the gubbins in the door are behind the polythene membrane on the door. And if you do go any further don't turn the ignition on with the air abg disconnected unless you have the means to turn the airbag light off again.

There isnt an airbag in the door but, there is a sensor mounted on plate.
Tunnie, it took about 30 mins to remove the drivers motor assembly for you about a year ago...but its so long ago I cant recall what was involved ::)

Sorry! I'd always been under the impression there was. What's the big ally thing with the sensor fastened to it for then?
Oh well! At least that's one less place I'll get caudite burns from then!! ;D ;D ;D

It's just that my drivers door won't open by the handle from the outside..only by the inside Handle..central locking all works...just fed up with getting in the passenger door and climbing over the seats ;D..so providing I don't disconnect anything I should be OK...Right :question.

Mine had been getting increasingly stiff (oooer! ::)) to open , particularly from the outside, to the stage that you needed to use 2 hands sometimes. I removed the whole assmbly from the door, 3 torx on the side of the door and the various linkages from the inside & outside handle & lock, and blasted anywhere & everwhere with a ptfe lub. It now opens very easily from both inside & outside.
Getting my hands in the small opening to remove the lock was the hardest part of the job.

Its so long since i worked on it, i faintly remember taking my dads door card to bits and swapping the switches over... with no luck.
i am 90% sure its the motor thats gone.
