Title: STILL leaking oil :(
Post by: PaulW on 03 March 2008, 00:44:23
Had the near-side cam cover gasket done by marksdtm at the cambelt party, as it was leaking.  Used a different cover aswell.

Its still leaking...  Quite a bit more than it was before.

At the rear, its leaking oil into the exhaust manifold.  You can see the runoff down the heatshield aswell, and its smoking white due to the heat.  Also stinks out the cabin when stopped at the lights...

Any ideas on a possible solution to this??  As said, tried a new cover, and all the gaskets & sealant were all GM stock, no crappy copy parts.

When i did mine at the party, i thought all was good until i found it was leaking into the plug wells again, turned out i had caught the seal when i put it back together and it wasn't seated correctly, took it apart again and 600 miles later all appears good.

Guess thats whats happened with yours.

It can take a while for the old leaked oil to find its way down to something hot and burn off.  The two times I've done this job it took a couple off weeks for the wiff to disappear.

Having said that , you said its leaking more than before so I'm not sure this is it.

I thought that myself, so I wiped it all clean off.  But when checking it last night it was just as bad as before I cleaned it off.

Of to VX now anyways, going to get some more gaskets and sealant and try again when I'm doing the coilpack...

The gaskets you have will be fine to re-use.....
