Title: omega 2.0cd cutting out/stalling problems
Post by: useless on 05 March 2008, 13:46:11
Hi all. Have 1998 2l cd. Engine management light started coming on every 2nd startup. Then it would stall at a junction every 2-3 days, worst of all it has cut out three times at 50+. Always starts straight away afterwards. From reading forums it would seem to be either crank sensor or iacv/breather problem. Could anyone tell me how expensive this is likely to be, is it a difficult job for a total novice? Got mot next week and limited cash.

Cutting out at speed sounds like crank sensor, follow the maintenance guide of code reading using a bent paper clip to read the stored fault codes.

Cutting out when stationary sunds like a sticking idle valve so follow the maintenance guide on cleaning the throttle body, breathers and idel valve.

Neither of these jobs are expensive to do yourself or particularly challenging.

Thanks for that ,will do clip test later. Bit apprehensive about tackling it myself, only experience under bonnet is topping up oil and water.

So this is an ideal opportunity to expand your experience and knowledge. Seriously, if you only just know one end of a spanner from the other you will be able to do these jobs, following the guides on here and posting questions if you get stuck.
You will soon be able to maintain your Miggy yourself and get a lot of satisfaction and save yourself a fortune.
Go for it!

I can heartily recommend these comments.
I was the same, never had to fix my own car as i always had a company car, now i have my own miggy and i want to keep it running sweet without paying grease monkey labour costs.
The tutorials on here are fantastic, have a browse through and take your time, they really are self explanatory.

Everyone with a 2.0 knows about the stalling problems so you are definately not alone!

Doing that job is almost free, although really you should replace a couple of gaskets - a few quid.  and if the black hoses are bad (like putty) its worth replacing those too - again just a few notes each from Vaux.

Take some digi pics as you go along so you can refer to them when you come to put it back together.

Thanks for all of your help and encouragement. Will do clip test to make certain then have a go myself, are the gaskets etc readily available and what tools do you recommend?

I have the same problem at idle. Didn't know this was such a common problem on the 2 liters before I started browsing the forum here.
