I have probably mentioned before, but need to get this sorted now, as the car isn't being used as it uses too much coolant.
I have a coolant leak from passenger side of engine. Judging by the amount of stains down along underside of car, its not unsubstaintial. Frequently get steam out of bonnet that side, near windscreen.
Seems to worse when cold, but can't scientifically confirm that.
Only thing that side is top rad hose, which I have replaced.
Any ideas?

maybe a core plug...
Im reliably informed there is one by where the dispack sits
try a bottle of radweld ::)

its maybe the radiator..

As you know, thats my fear. Or worse. But before bodge fluid, wanted to ensure all other possibilities covered....

MV6 or Tractor? If MV6 not stat housing?

If it is.....radweld had been holding mine together for well over 6 months, with no problems, my coolant system was immaculate before it went in though.
-
Sorry to be largely unhelpful here but, for a given amount of water vapour, you will get more "steam" the colder it is.
Haven't heard of a core plug go for many years. Usually the cause of an instantaneous dump of 50% of the contents of the cooling system.
Hope it's not. Might as well do a rebore and crank/big end bearings while you are at it if so... Valve stem seals and cam bearings ain't much more and you're good for another 100,000 miles.
-
Its not a gone core plug, just slightly weeping when cool.
With mine I could drive 2 miles, and lose a litre, or drive 100 and still lose the 1 litre.!
-
I've just had the same problem, but without the steam.
For me it was the connection of the thermosts housing with the metal pipe that stick out towards the power steering pump, and connects the rubber hose to the rad.

Bummer of a job, but Mark TDM said get the plenum off and access is possible.
Did it, was possible (hurray), and am waiting for the parts from VX.

I think you need to pressurise the system, when cold if possible, and have a poke around. Take the plenum and intake manifold off, reconnect the two tubes to the TB, pressurise the system (tyre valve in an old reservoir cap) and see if you can see / hear / feel anything.

hy
- i have omega 2,2 dth
-when i rulls 600-800km i lost coolant 200-300 ml
-and also i change the termostat 4 weks ago...and my temp is very high..90-95c..
question is>..
...is the COOLANT PUMP the problem??? >:(

when i torate the engine she gous up to 95 c......and i dont know what is the optimal temperature for Omega 2,2 dti
-i dont know is good or no....but ..this temperature is tu big when outside the temp is only 10 c! :(

I have a spare cap. Several, actually (tractor use to eat them fro breakkie). But no valves. Or ability to stick valve in :-[

Ask your local tyre fitters or bike shop for an old one. Then just drill a hole of the correct size. Might need to remove the relief valve gubbins and get it to seal properly, then pump it up to 1 bar and see what happens.

Actually, I'll have a rummage tonight. Might have a few spares...

I know a certain Admin has one. I wonder if he'll swap a cap for one already made up ;D
-
Hi,
Take care, and don't be tempted to go above 1 bar though, or you may well cause damage to something really expensive, like a rad or heater matrix.
Roger

Even at 1 bar you double the normal pressure of a cooling system. Should be 7-9 psi.
-
Well, I've got a valve if you want me to lob it in the post to you?
If you make up a cap I'd be interested in borrowing it when you're finished with it as I've got a very slow coolant leak myself (probably HBV).

if the coolant system is working correctly , the outside temp should have little to do with it. The thermostat should control the engine temp to optimum which is around the level you mention.
anyway , this is someone elses thread, so I suggest you start a new one and describe the symptoms of your leak in detail :y
