The way fuel prices are going I'm giving serious consideration to an LPG conversion on my x reg 2.5 v6 petrol estate - that is if I ever find and cure the oil leak.
Anybody care to recommend somewhere / somebody to carry out the conversion work - local to Nottingham if possible.
What are the costs likely to be.
Would anyone advise against having it done.

Only have it done if you're keeping the car (obviously) and you do enough miles to get some benefit out of it.
Once you've ticked those boxes, i'd go for it.
Mine was already done when i bought the car, though i'd definitely get it done again if i changed the car.
LPG is half the price of unleaded

As mark says it all depends if you're mileage is high and you'll have the car for a decent length of time. Check your local filling stations for prices and availability as well before the event.

Just bought myself a Lpg Vectra as a run arround, the price of the Veccy was a lot cheaper than gettind my 3.0 MV6 converted which has been on my mind for a while.
So sort of doing a experiment - experience thing to see how all this LPG thing works out before I take the plung and get the Miggy done.
Anyway only had the Veccy for a week and all ready my local Morrisons have gone from 49.9 p per lilter to 57.9p (whats that all about), the other thing I've learnt by reading the LPG Forums, is its all not a bed of roses, more yearly servicing costs, more things to go wrong and your vechile needs to be running spot on all of the time to get most out LPG.
Lots of things to weigh up realy, the way I see it is only going to be cheap motoring as long as the Government keep the LPG tax low.
Worst case I can petty much get my money back on the Veccy if I'm not happy, compared to fitting a LPG conversion cost, which I've yet to rule out.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the budget. I think I'm going to resurrect my LPG plans if they don't do a Ken on LPG.

Someone else has just had a conversion done in manchester that included a courtesy car .. sounds good .....

Forgot to add, the lpg system is more reliant on your ignition system, so expect to change leads and plugs more often. Basic rule with lpg is that if anything is wrong with your car it will be highlighted tenfold when running on lpg. If your car is not in great shape might be a better idea to leave it.
I pay 46 pence a litre at a jet garage but it varies so much between garages. One garage a mile away from the jet wants 62 pence per litre, so as said before check your local garages now.

else the problems will multiply and will be more complex to solve..

My old 2.0 was at 125k miles when i converted her and she was fine upto 155k when the HT leads gave up. Not bad really as they were the original leads. Also i thought the servicing was not really effected at all. I did mine on 5k miles before and after LPG was installed. If you can get TC servicing is cost peanuts.
As far as i understand the GM Ecotec engine is quite a good engine convert, has good top end lubrication compared to some other makes. I hear Volvo's cars don't like LPG and tend to overheat...

more like a courtesy tank!! it's used £36 to travel 90 miles!! i still havent got my car back yet tho, they need to pull their fingers out! Either way, I dont do spectacularly high mileage, if anything just average, but cos its a big engine, i figured it was a MUST!

OK - Thanks all. Sounds like I need to do a little more research and comparison work. Meantime can anyone give me an indication of what a conversion might cost - ball park at a reliable place..

DIY (sequential) - between £400-600
Installer - £1000-1500
Rough guestimate!
It's probably only worth converting with a sequential (injected) system because you have a v6 if it was a four pot you could get away with a single point but they're not as efficient and you will lose a small bit of bhp.

I have a 2000(W) 2.5 V6 CDX with LPG conversion that's got 180k on the clock, It has been nothing short of excellent. There is no noticable loss in power and you simply dont notice the changeover from petrol (about 30 seconds after starting from cold). £10 of petrol (used for starting) has lasted me about 3 months so far. Forget filling stations for gas, look up you local Calor Gas centre they charge 42p - 45p a litre. I do 140 miles to work and back daily and the savings are fantastic. As gas is cleaner running than petrol your oil/exhaust etc last longer. So you need to keep your ignition efficent - re-gapping or even replacing plugs is no big deal, HT leads have never caused me a problem. Don't debate the issue, if you're keeping the car and do any significant mileage at all, GO GAS.
