Title: Switch Illumination
Post by: amba on 11 March 2008, 22:58:10
Can any body confirm that the front and rear fog switches on the Mini Facelift dash panel below the headlight switch should or should not illuminate with the lights on ??.If they do what bulb is fitted as seems strange that every other switch in the car does light up.

Seem to recall they are LED, but don't quote me on that.  Fairly sure they light up, but its cold and wet outside at moment, so not looking ;D

Thanks Mark,so assuming my headlight switch does illuminate there must be another bulb or light tube feeding the fog lights as mine are not lit .

Fog switch illumination is via two LEDs which I have seen blow.....trouble is they are fed by a single series resistor so when one LED gives up the ghost the other now gets double current and follows very shortly after!

Must be different on facelifts.........coz mine has definately got a 2 or 3w bulb illuminating the fog light switches and the height adjustment roller and the dimmer roller, plugged into the rear of the switch......the lighting of the headlight switch is buried inside the switch and quite likely an led (havent pulled it apart to find out)

Now quite puzzled(not too hard to do that today !! )so if my headlight switch is illuminated what if anything lights the fog light switches or don,t they illuminate ?? 1998 elite with no headlight adjuster and both rear /front fog light switches below main light turn dial.

Mark..thanks for answer..always wondered why they didn,t have any illumination other than "tell tale " on main gauge display..what with everything else lighting up,pity as would have made it easier to see switch in the dark.

Hi Amba.
Just to confirm what other members have said, I have just had a look at mine.
I have the 98 2.5 elite and the main lights switch does light up plus the front and rear fogs  "tell tale" on dash.

Try this link it will show you how to change the one bulb in the light switch cluster

Thanks Bruce.
Found link really usefull,,will have a look in my box of odds.n,ends as sure I have a new bulb..main question was do the actual fog light push switches illuminate as mine only seems to have a back light above the main headlight dial ..and yes the orange and green tell tale display in main dash dials so know actual lights are functioning

Right ..just removed switch with 2 old RAC cards and have found 1 bulb held in with a grey screw cap.Taken bulb out and with my eyesight seems to have a 0.5 watt 12 volt bulb.In my box of spares have found a similar fitting but with an orange holder and looks like bulb is 1 watt,so will fit that and see(excuse the pun) if the brightness improves and illuminates the 2 rocker switches for the fog lights.
Just for referrence is the correct size bulb 2 watt ?? if so does the base holder colour vary with wattage or just what is made. Also any idea if they are a Halfrauds purchase as do have a shop local
