Title: Brakes change shopping list??

I'm going to change the brakes next weekend. The problem is I'm doing it at the folks house 150 miles away on a saturday when the dealers are shut

I need a bit of advice to make sure I have everything on me before I go.

So far I've got
VX front & back discs & pads
2 brake wear sensors
a litre of brake fluid
Rear shoes

Is there any other bits & pieces I'll need to do the job in one go??

Probably worth doing the rear pads as well, whilst you have them in bits to do the handbrake shoes ...

Some brake/clutch cleaner to clean the new discs before fitting - they need to be totally grease free.

Copper grease to put on the back faces of the pads and a smidge on the pad lugs to stop squealing

Torque wrench ???

Can't think of much else right now ... :)

Wire brush(es) in order to throughly clean the hubs where the discs fit, an impact driver or very good quality screwdriver if the discs have a locating screw and an old syringe to remove some brake fluid from the brake fluid  container if it is too high to allow the pistons to be pushed back without overflowing.

You might also need some plus gas.

Rear shoes - may not need doing but if so, you need to be prepared to adjust the handbrake - joy of joys.   In fact even if you don't you'll need to slacken off the adjusters to remove the disk and reset afterwards.

So,
ratchet spanner (13mm??) if you have one, for the adjuster under the car
maglite type torch to shine in the adjuster hole
needle nose pliers x 2 for the pins (infact if the car is old , may need new pins)
hex bit for the little screw in the disk

assuming you have the normal socket set, spanners, screwdrivers
may also be worth getting a new handbrake cable on sale or return in case the old one is seized (I've had two of them)

Start now by wd40'ing the heatshield studs around centre section of exhaust.

A 'fitting kit' for rear pads may be worth having, as the anti rattle springs sometimes are broken.
