Is the longer plenum on the V6 better than the older short version?
And secondly how important is the electric water pump and what is its use. What happens it if fails?
-
i read somewhere the longer plenum fitted to later cars gives more torque lower down the rev range. :y

Water pump pumps coolant round the engine, rather essential...if it fails it will cause overheating and if continually used head gasket failure and other potential failures...

The electric pump near the top radiator hose runs after shutdown, along with the fans, if the engine is hot enough.
When mine failed coolant was forced out of the header tank after shutdown. I think caused by localised boiling in the heads due to lack ofcoolant circulation.

Yeah, but I'm referring to the small electric pump mounted to the wing under the header tank.

As stated then, secondary something or other than just helps cool down engine if too hot after a long runs I think...cant hurt to replace it but no real biggy if its not working...

This pump is to circulate coolant around the heater matrix, so the climate can be used to heat the car using residal heat from a hot engine when parked, so probably not that important. Not sure if it's used when the engine is running or not. :-/

Not sure on the precise gains, but the longer plenum is more appropriate for 3.0/3.2 engines, with shorter being a better size for 2.5/2.6

Interesting you have the aux pump under the header tank, my 98 2.5 did not.
I added one to try to improve the heater output, without much success, sadly.
As Kevin says, it probably won't make difference if that one fails.
Do you have the option to use the heater with the engine shutdown?
