Title: Unknown pipe on a V6 engine
Post by: jharv on 18 March 2008, 09:22:26
Hi Can anyone help in identifying a pipe & its purpose on a V6 engine.
Next to the oil filter on the LHS are 2 pipes with silver coloured heat protected wraps. The lower one goes to the RH side of the oil filter to a sensor and is properly wired up. The upper one disappears up the back of the engine  next to the 2 oil cooler pipes but where to ? The other end just dangles down near the oil filter.
Because this second pipe looks the same as the first, is this also a wiring connection which has become severed (but I cannot find any unconnected wiring in the vicinity), or is this a breather pipe of some sort ?
I have checked in the Haynes manual but cannot find any clues. Because these are the only 2 heat protected pipes in this area then hopefully they will be fairly obvious to someone.
Many thanks

It will be where someone has changed the crank sensor and just cut the ends off the old one instead of compleatly removing it, as they are not the easyist bits of wire to remove.

I'm guessing .. but I don't think these are "pipes" ... methinks these are Crank sensor wiring, and one has been changed in the past. The "wires" are heat protected and the path the factory fit ones take is impossible to copy, so on changing a new path is recomended, and just cut off the old sensor and plug, leaving the wiring behind.

Have a read of these two .. will explain my thoughts better... then you can tell me how wrong I am !!!!

An expert will pass by shortly and correct all my errors .. with any luck !!   :)

Thankyou everyone for solving my problem. Looking at these 2 replies this is clearly the solution.
