Hi can anyone shed any light as to what the vacuum induction box does?
This is the black box fixed to the bottom of the intake duct assembly just about where the duct from the air filter does a U turn & splits into 2 (i.e. lower RHS).
The box just has 2 vacuum pipes connected, one from the Intake duct switchover valve, the other is connected to the Brake system servo unit hose near the servo itself.
One of the vacuum pipe connections has been broken for some time now (curtesy of a garage) but does not seem to affect performance.
Surely if a box just has 2 connections, why not join the connections together or is the box a glorified one way valve ?
Basically is there any point in buying a new box ?

there is a one way valve in there and another vac box in the skuttle where your pollen filter is.....the system controls the multi ram set up :y
A more technical explanation will no doubt be forthcoming...
Any yes i would get a new box - can also be found on vectras..

Its a mixture of a glorified one way valve and a vacuum reservoir.
Just like the brake servo, it contains a diaphragm and spring, the vacuum sucks the diaphragm against the spring, storing energy (i.e. vacuum), and the one way valve makes sure that the stored vacuum cannot leak back out through the inlet manifold.
This means that the multi-ram can always be operational, regardless of how much vacuum is really being generated in the manifold, and so that it can react quickly.
