Title: Omega 2.2 Diesel. No power loads of smoke and no c
Post by: steve-striker on 24 March 2008, 20:27:57
Hi, can anyone help?
My 2003 Omega 2.2 diesel has developed a fault that is driving me crazy.
Starts ok, idles ok, when you try to accelerate there is no power and clouds of black smoke. If you run for more than about 10seconds with you're foot down the management light comes on.
I have plugged in my acr4 and there were no codes.
Took it to the local garage who has three different readers including the latest snap-on unit, still no codes.
If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Steve

Hmmm, where are you?

Live data needs to be read to understand the exact cause as it couldbe many things with Turbo failure being the least likely.

The one I looked at recently with the same symptoms was suffering from a clogged inlet pressure sensor.....

Does sound like a turbo fault :(

Hi Mark, I'm in the north of scotland near dundee.
Just had a call from the local garage who has spoken to a vauxhall expert who said it is probably an electrical fault in the injection pump. Only fix is a new pump.

Doubt it, dirty great big Garrat turbo on a small diesel engine, very unlikely (and not known) to fail. In fact teh only one I have seen go was an ELF (Early Life Failure) on a new motor due to a manufacturing fault.

I still reacon inlet pressure sensor.....they get gummed up due to being connected directly into the inelt manifold after the EGR valve.

As said, it needs live data reading......

Number one rule of fault finding, NEVER change anything on a hunch.

Read the live data and measure the inlet boost pressure on an external gauge, compare it that reported by the ECU. My money is that the ECU will be reporting a lower pressure.

One easy test, if you rev it, does the right hand side inlet pipe go firm....

Have to agree it doesn't sound like turbo failure to me.  Could be a number of things, but as M_DTM suggests, needs live data.

Check all the hoses in the intake. only once had the symtoms you have noted and it was due to the hose having come off the turbo outlet. This was due to the numpties at the garage not tightening up the hose clip after having the hose off to get access to the diesel filter and it working off once it was hot. The hose may look okay when idling but as soon as the negine moves under load the seal will be broken or when you hit boost pssure that will unseat it as well.

Code readers are a pain for the DTI as not all are capable of picking up the codes and then you need someone to work out what they are actually seeing, one guy suggested the fuel pump was shot and it turned out to be the crank sensor.

Good luck,

Steve
