Title: Removing heatshields
Post by: cbs2 on 28 March 2008, 18:43:07
Tried to change the handbrake cable at the weekend. When I started to remove the heatshields the bolts were just breaking. I stopped just in case. I also gave them several doses of plus gas, but it didn't help.

Before I attempt this again, is there any tried & tested ways to re-secure them if the majority have sheared off during removal, or can the car run happily without them - the worst case scenario

dependent on how far they snap have you got enough thread sticking out to put a nut on afterwards.

if not you might have to drill them out, you might need to re tapp the thread and get some new bolts.
