Hey guys
Got a problem brewin on the mig
Past 2 mornings, I've had a funny noise from the front of the engine when the cars been started from cold on the choke.
By the looks of it, I've got a pully bearing on its way out.
I've already bought the cambelt kit, aux belt & water pump, But I need a loan of a locking Kit for saturday.
Anybody Glasgow/Central way got one I can borrow??
Didn't think I would need to do it so soon, was waiting for the next meeting, but need the car for monday

Might be worth taking off the aux belt and checking all the ancillaries turn smoothly without significant play. Could just be the aux. belt tensioner or water pump, etc.
If there's any doubt about the cam belt tensioners, however, best to be on the safe side.

if you cannot get hold of a cam kit, do what the mechanic that did mid did, interlock some spanners where the cam kit would be then cable tie them in place, its a bit crude but it works, i had my doubts when he did it but an hour or so later, cam sorted and runs like a dream. :y

I wouldn't advise it......the kit also sets the crankshaft exactly where it needs to be with ease, and holds everything where it needs to be ;)

Yes. In addition, whilst the cams can be locked without the locking kit (NEVER use molegrips, however), it's the timing gauge that comes with it that is crucial. The marks on the cam cover backplate are very approximate. You can probably get the engine running using them, but the get the timing right you need the gauge. Remember the timing is continuously variable, so it's not just a matter of being within a tooth on these engines. If I had to set an engine up without the kit, I'd regard it as a stop gap and I'd set it up with the kit at the earliest.
