Title: Tech 2 Reader can I buy one?
Post by: 2dogs on 27 March 2008, 14:52:48
Dear Omega buddies,

I have a static 2.2 cd........It's buggered and I need to clear the codes
to take it out of limp mode...

Also does anyone know why motor factors don't sell the second lamber sensor.....

Please advise if anyone has any clue's.
Many thanks :y

It will go out of limp mode only when the faults are repaired, regardless of whether stored codes are still present so the first step is to read the codes and figure out why it's in limp mode. It would help if you let us know the symptoms too.

For a 2.2 you need a code reader of some sort, as later cars don't flash codes on the engine light. Either find someone local who has one or buy a "cheapo tech 2".

If it's going into limp mode, it sounds as though the cam sensor as failed, does it always start first turn of the key?

You need to get the codes read and post them up here.

If you live near Nottingham or Brackley (Northants) MarkDTM or TheBoy have TechII's.

If it's of any interest, www.talktomycar.co.uk sell the ELM 327 with either USB or Serial version for laptop connection, bought one of them when I had my 2.2 Omega, worth it's weight in gold and can be used on other OBDII version vehicles.
Cheers Pete

The ELM327 interfaces will only work on the later engines - 2.2/2.6/3.2, however. They are, in my experience, much more stable and reliable than a cheapo Tech 2 but will only read the engine whereas a cheapo will (attempt to) read other systems.

No, its for OBDII cars only - your options are paperclip (works almost as well as ELM readers, only not live data), cheapo tech2, or real tech2. Or other very expensive readers.

Takes about 20mins to go through whole car, assuming no issues, less if its a lower spec model.

I think Kevin Wood has a cheapo, have a play with that when you see him ;)

@ 2dogs ... where are you ??

If you stick your location ands car type in your profile it saves being asked a zillion times :)

Several folks have different cheapo readers .. I have a ELM 327 that would read yours ... but can't offer to help as we don't know where you are ..  :)
