From memory (been a while since I've done one) there is a coloured insert - to need to move this first, which allows switch to come out

how do you remove it,ive pressed pedal down as far as it will go ,there is some clearance between switch and pedal but the red plastic insert will not come out,as it got to be turned with a spanner say clockwise  :-[

No, there is a collar which needs to be pulled out (white I think but, could be red), it takes quite a bit of force to shift it.

Then the tabs can be pushed in on the sides and it pops out.

Two things to watch.

1) Unless the collar is pulled all the way towards the pedal then the tabs cant be pressed

2) The brake pedal needs to be pressed slightly to get the collar all the way out.

I normaly use a pair of pliers and lever the dam thing out, quite often it ratchets the brake switch plunger at the same time (these self adjust when first fitted)

The collar is white, but it didn't help me when I tried. After several hours of blood and swearing I concluded that it was impossible to remove it non-destructively. If it's broken anyway brute force is the easiest way.

Good stuff.....I normally get them out in one piece to.

Before fitting, make sure the plunger is all the way out.

I used to live on Goodrest Croft, right at the bottom. It's been 20 years since then though.
