Whilst washing my car today I noticed a small drop of oil on yhe floor. When I looked there was oil on the rear sump bolts. Im hoping its "just" the sump gasket that needs sorting. Can this be tightened up more to see if that helps?? Anything else it could be? Sorry but new to omegas. :'( :-[

If it's a v6 then it's more than likely the cam cover gaskets, loads of info on here about it :y
-
How difficult are these to do? Are they expensive? How do I search a topic??
-
Are you getting any smell of burnng oil when it's running?
-
Only every now and again
-
Pull a plug lead out and the wells will probably be full of oil if it is the gaskets, very very common problem on miggys.
I did mine a few months back and used this guide...

Not that hard if you've got a bit of mechanical knowledge :y
-
Cam cover gaskets ... :)
Took me about a day the first time .. following the instructions in the guides..

It is IMPERATIVE to use ONLY genuine Vx gaskets, to clean the Breather system at the same time, and to use the BLACK sealant.
If you don't the problem will reoccur within a year !!! :(
-
Thanks guys, My mate does all my mechanical work for me. I pay him in valets ;) Only got car yesterday N wasnt leakin then (Typical)
You say check plug wells. Dont you have to take head off for that. Laugh n point if u want!!! ::)
-
No mate, just pull the easiest one to get to.
I keep checking mine but everything's still ok atm.
Mine used to drip with oil when i pulled one out, that's how i knew it had to be done pretty sharpish.
-
Also you say use black sealant? Is this a vauxhall sealant and all the codes used in above guides are they vauxhall part no's? :y
-
The guide lists the correct BLACK sealant from Vx .. who also do a greeny coloured one .. some dealers just grab "sealant" and you end up with the wrong stuff ... the green stuff won't last long on the cam covers :)
BTW .. if you are going to buy all the bits for the cam cover gaskets.. including all the o-rings, throttle body gaskets etc etc .. get a trade card from ABS .. £20 ... it'll save you a fortune in the long run .. and only takes a week to get.

Can you join autobahnstormers? Cant see a link to join or get trade card?? :-[
-
go to the link in the above post of mine .. then

then
How to Join
:)
-
So once i join and pay £20 I get the trade card or is that a further £20??
-
nope .. £20 to join gets you a trade card :)
I have saved far more than that in the time I've had mine !! :)

Done mine today, took about 2 hours and cost £63 with TC (saves about £10).. for the £63 you get the four Cam Cover Gaskets, 16 "O" rings and a tube of black sealer :y

Probably did .. but you've done it before I guess !!
When I did mine took nearly a full day, as I carefully read each printed guide and did things very slowly. I had problems with the cable tray and cut a corner .. bad news .. that side didn't go on properly and leaked like a sieve. In here that night asking questions .. got good advice ... redid the job the next day in half the time.
So if you know what you are doing ( I don't half the time!!) it probably is a couple of hours .. if you are like me .. don't rush and allow plenty of time. It is NOT difficult as I found ... I made my own problems !!!
I'll be doing the new beast as soon as the weather improves, and I'm far more confident now.

Brilliant guys. Well gonna have a decent look tomorrow and will let you know how i get on. :y

I've got to do mine too..
.. let me know how you get on? 'cos I've not attempted anything like this before - and I'll be pleased to hear if it's possible to do without having been shown how to do it (properly!! :))
-
Yeah will do. Gonna see if I can get better idea of where its comin from as it was raining at the time of looking. Axel stands FTW. :y :)
-
Pah Raining again but just been under car and can confirm that it is the cam cover gaskets leaking. Not suprising really when the previous owner had overfilled her with oil. >:( >:( >:(
-
When you do your Cam Covers mate make sure you clean the breathers out aswell:y
-
Will do, thanks. Is there a particular way of doing this?
-
Have a read of this mate it should help :y

Hi,
It's also a good time to change your spark plugs as well, while everything is out of the way.
Roger
-
Thanks roger. Been told that before :y
-
i did my cam cover gaskets following the guide it took me about 5 hours.
but the guide is spot on
but mine is now again leaking (i made the mistake of non vx gaskets) so i am converting to vectra covers as i have been told these are better? and genuine vx gaskets this time

if you convert to vectra covers the pressure will find the next weakest point to escape from, which iirc is crank oil seals.
