hi there
I've got a problem with 2.2 cd auto, the passenger side rear footwell keeps filling with water. I've done a search on here and found the scuttle drain problem so i checked that and it was blocked, i've sorted that and dried everything out. Checked the car today and its full of water again :'(. I checked the scuttle drain and its clear so i'm stumped >:(. any ideas?

How long did it take to fill after drying out?
Could be a door or window seal thats gone or is dirty.
-
did you dry out the front footwell aswell? that one would almost certainly have been soaked, and if you dry out the back and park on a hill, the front may run through!
-
the front was dry, it took about a month to fill again. i'll check the door seals
thanks

God, we've had EXACTLY the same problem as you now for over a year Ry!
On our estate, scuttle drain regularly cleared, seals seem to be good, though the test is to put a hosepipe on it I suppose. Numerous mechanics had a look and can still not find the cause. :-/
First thing is to get it dry, it stinks when you take the carpet up and the sound absorption material also acts like a well primed sponge! Put an old folded towel underneath between the floor & carpet and try and get it dry. The fact that it is in the passenger footwell means it just finds itself to the lowest part of the car.
Now onto a possible cause. An old(!) member on here and very knowledgable gent suggested it maybe the air conditioning condenser which could potentially give out a cup-full of water at a time if the air-con is working. The condenser is situated just behind the dashboard/glovebox area but alas, I have never actually seen it! Though, it should have a drain hole in the body which exits just above the gearbox on the underside of the car.
This is where it gets bizarre, ours has supposedly been checked and cleared but still...........wet floor. :(
Windscreen is possible but ours has still got original windscreen. What's the significance of door locks CB??? All I know is if someone finds a cause, I want to know!

nice to know i'm not the only one ;D. last time i pulled up the carpet in that footwell and ripped off the sound deadning material, it must have held about 2 gallons!, dried that in the house and left the carpet up for the next two weeks. after it was dry everthing went back in and problem was solved untill now >:(. it does seem to be after heavy rain so i will check the door seals 2morrow but the air con is on all the time also, how do you check the drain for the condenser, how do you get at it?
thanks for all the help

You put it up on your 4-post lift of course! ;D
Seriously though, I think it's only really viewable from underneath (above gearbox), even then I suppose prodding with a coat hanger is the way!?! Unless of course you fancy taking some trim apart inside (behind glovebox)???

if it happens after heavy rain then something like door seals sounds more likely.it might be worth getting some kitchen roll and stick it round the bottom of the door with masking tape and see if it gets wet :-/

Just reading through and dont know if you fixed the problem. I may be repeating what you already know. Isolved my problem as the water was comming in from the wiring lume passenger side in the engine bay as the water was collecting in a 'v' shaped body shell paert and travelling higher than where the loom enters the car.
This maybe what people are refering to as the 'scuttle tray'. I had gallons on 2 occasions after heavy rain. I looseneg the wiring loom gomet so that should the scuttle tray fill again it will never enter the car.
hope this helps you and others with similar problem
