Have been talking to a mate.
He has the same model Omega as myself.
On occasions starting from cold the Auto box has slipped into winter mode within 200 yards of driving off.
He has been told it's also a safety setting on the autobox if the computer susses a problem.
Turning off the engine and restarting resets the box and it has never done it twice on the same journey.
It has happened about a dozen times he reckons and in hot and cold weather.
Any idea's? 55,000 miles on the car

probly better suggestions coming, but i would change atf and filter, see what condition the aft is in , gives you a good idea what the g-box is in :)

going into limp straight away, implies electrical in my book. Possibly selector switch, but could be solenoids etc.

Winter mode or fault. Is it showing a gearbox fault on the display? G/box can drop into 3 when showing a fault.
NB must type faster.

Mentioned it was going into winter mode I think, (3rd gear) but deffo no display warning

That could be simply a switch fault then?

Most likely selector switch
