And how much as that then :-X

GM 10/40 Semi Syth.
GM Oil is £8 for 5L when you get the 4 for 3 offer on 5L bottles.
Oil filters work out at about £1.10.
So an oil change on mine costs me less than a tenner. I change the oil 3/4 times a year. Made a massive difference to the feel of the engine! :)
-
I have been told that VX oil is the best. thats what i stick in my baby and i have noticed a massive difference.
but its personal choice.
i use the 10w 40 i used to have the 15w 40 in it untill i was told buy james that it tends to be a bit thick for my 2ltr and makes it noisey at start up and when cold.
-
As Tunnie said .. VX own semi on a TC .. if you don't have a TC get one .. £20 a year .. you'll save that on your first visit !!
-
vauxhall oil is really mobil1! and TC is free not £20! i know ways of aquiring one but cant say 2 mch pm me

Strange, when I have the oil changed as part of a service by the local Vx stealer it says Mobil 1 10W/40 on the invoice...
Mr Hagon.

Mr Hagon.
That might be what they are using as many of these garages have a bulk delivery setup for servicing rather than using the excellent Vx/Gm oil....
Anyway, Mobil dont do a Mobil 1 oil in 10W40 grade....they do do a Super-S and a Super-M

Can't really see a stealer shelling out £46.99 for 5 litres of oil - unless the bulk price is very, very much lower than Halfrauds. I'd be wanting single malt for that! :o

Its probably nothing more than Super-M which is a pretty basic multigrade oil by all accounts.
Mobil 1 is only available as 0-30 and 0-40!

Enough about oils suitable for petrol powered beasts, what is recommended for the plough-towing monsters????

I'm terribly sorry to jump on the bandwagon, was about to search and saw this post :)
Is it Semi Synth VX 10W/40 for a 2000 (facelift, paper filter) 3.0 MV6 please? :)
I can at least promise I won't ask the same question again :D

Yep, I use fully synth in my Facelift but, its had this every 3-4K miles since sub 20K on the clock!
The mini face lift gets semi synth

Seeing as Costco do 4ltrs of Mobil 1 for £22ish incl VAT i would assume a garage buying direct pays considerably less than that, so in answer to your question Hellfarts have a massive mark up on it (btw on halfords trade card its £36ish, still considerably more than Costco)
-
I have used the fully synthetic Chevron 5w40 oil from Costco before. Not bad value. About 50 quid + VAT for 20 litres IIRC. Semi Synth GM oil is so much cheaper that I just use that and change it more often now. It comes in manageable containers too (unless you just ask for 20 litres ::)).
I used to use mobil 1 7 or 8 years ago when you could pick up a 4l (could even have been 5l actually) container of it in France for about 12-15 quid. Used to chuck a few of them in the car whenever I did a booze cruise, etc. They can take a hike these days though. :o

It makes for a humourous first oil change when trying to pour it. I have actually got a tap that screws into the neck of the bottle but seeing as it's just as cheap in 5L bottles it's not worth bothering. Just have to remember to ask for 4x5L ::) Otherwise, you get a box about the same size and take it home, only to find it's got one great big 20l carton in it. :-X

Hehe, yeah, thats retail prices!
Its by 3 x 5L and get the 4th 5L free at most dealers, its been an offer running for ages.
If you buy 20 oil filters at one time, they work out at £1.10 ish including VAT each!

Whats the crack with VX fully synthetic 5w30, I've got a couple of gallons knocking around in my garage which I bought for 14 pounds per gallon. Not sure weather to use it or not in the V6.

That is of course excluding the times when it didn't like the taste and threw the lot out of oil pump, sump, and dipstick tube ::)

1998 Omega 2.5 V6 Auto with Aircon
I use Castrol Magnatec 10W - 40 on the advice from my local Vx Dealer.
I got a very good "one off" promotional deal via Halfords - 20-lts for £50.00 (Jan 2008)
Should I change to Vx 10W-40?

I agree. Castrol makes a good flush.
Sadly, it would appear, Castrol shows what marketing can do....

Normal if you do a lot of short trips.

To be honest, Castrol seems very prone to mayo build up due to condensation which is the biggest problem with it.
If buying Vx oil, get a trade card or borrow one!

of course you could always pretend it's castrol by pouring vx 10w40 into your engine at the same time as wearing a castrol gtx tan bomber jacket. it worked for alan patridge:
I'm calling to arrange delivery of a Castrol GTX bomber jacket in tan. Certainly, it's four hundred London Road, Linton. That's the Linton Travel Tavern. Right at the Esso garage on the A12, yeah. Don't go left, you'll end up in Mike Oldfield's estate. If he thinks you're a poacher he'll shoot you.

Just checked my invoice and indeed its Mobil Super M 10W/40. I dared to challenge the knowledge of Marks DTM and lost, unsurprisingly....

Which is a cheap multigrade oil.....
-
Hmmm. Perhaps the best option for the future is to source the oil myself to ensure I get something decent put in for the future.
Why a Vx stealer wouldn't use Vx branded oil sounds silly, unless of course they use cheaper products bought in bulk.

I use the Vauxhall Semi synthetic and because its so cheap change it every 4 months or so ;)
