I get 'check oil level' on mine only when its about half stick and cruising on the motorway.  Gets sorted by topping upto the top mark on the dipstick.....

It means the engine oil level is low... or the sensor in the sump is playing up. Is the oil level correct on the dipstick?

I've seen that on the motorway a few times, I even pulled off the motorway and checked it, but it always looks about right on the dipstick, I don't think it takes much to trip the sensor

be wary.....i could be wrong but there are i believe two different oil warnings...

Oil lack may be more severe - and something that genuinely lacks something may soon be starved...

Does your oil warning light come on or flicker at all ?

Markie, I think you maybe wright, I would change oil but more important the filter, also re-check that the filter unit is clean and clear. if the engine is starved of oil this is the first port of call.  :y

I think theres only the one m8........dependant on age of Omega.....you either get 'oil lack' or 'oil level' mine says oil level...when it gets to the min mark on the dipstick.

Previously i would have said it was a facelift/prefacelift difference but i dont think it is anymore.....as H21 says his says check oil level.....tho his might be minifacelift (not sure  :-/ )

But i still think its an age dependant thingy :y

I think mine shows both, oil lack is the worst kind, thats why I checked it, I just had an oil and filter change just in case the filter was blocked, my oil light never comes on

I've only seen it once when the oil level was low and haven't seen it for months. I am changing the oil every 2000 miles with Vx oil and filter  :y

Thats very interesting.........in another thread ages ago.....we were discussing this.......and i think it was decided that some omega's say oil lack some say oil level...... :-/

So yours definately says both?

I'll see what i can find out on this.......as said before mine says check oil level when its on the min mark on the dipstick........how low does it have to go before it says oil lack???......No im not going to experiment to find out  ;D I'll try searching in material i have access to  ::)

It only shows one.

If the oil is below halfway between min/max, and take it on a motorway run, it can be enough to briefly bring on the warning - just keep it topped up to nearer max mark

Ah rite......cheers TB.  :y i thought it was...but some posts made me undecided.....

Tho ive never worked out why....it doesnt just check the level when you turn the ign on prior to starting.......how can it acurately judge oil level when its all spashing about inside the engine  :-/

Its designed to warn you when its running (with all the oil around the engine).

Next time to drop your oil, see how much has to come out before the warning comes on ;)

Well it says in the owner’s manual “engine oil level, engine oil too low when ignition is switched on”, it then says “oil lack, extreme oil shortage, switch off engine immediately”, I can’t remember for sure if I’ve seen them both, I could be thinking of the Senator again

I have seen this on mine once. Car had been sat at idle on an incline whilst defrosting the car this winter. It was due for an oil change as it was just coming upto the 4k since the last one. Only assume the oil was a bit thicker due to cold as the level was correct.
