Title: Speedo not working
Post by: prestigesec on 12 April 2008, 18:21:11
Hi just seen an omega for sale but the airbag and ABS lights remain on and the speedometer and milage gauges do not work. What would this be? and is it an expensive or akward job to fix?? Car is a W reg new shape elite

Don't know about the airbag light, but I would think that a fubar'd ABS ECU is the cause of the ABS light & no speedo. Is it a 4 pot? If a 6 cylinder it would have Traction Control & the warning light for that would also be on if a failed ABS ECU.

Shagged ABS ECU.

Can be refurbed for about £150, takes about 5 days.  Pig of a job to remove/refit

shows owner does really bother to fix serious issues, so what state is it mechanically in.  May be worth a punt, but only for stupid money - v6s have dropped dramatically in price

Alloys dont bother me being different, but know what you mean about how long speedo not been working for, but to be honest its so easy now to get your car clocked back  anyway and make it look right with services that half the time you wouldnt know if its true mileage or not. Guy said he is looking for a grand which i thought was ok, what you think???

on the other hand it might be a decent motor, but with a huge quote for labour to change ecu.if you can diy and save a lot of cash it might be worth a punt.i wouldnt like to advise how much tho  :-/

Alloys are wrong, he has spent money to replace the orginals, but NOT spent money on fixed mechanical issues.

Pay no more than £800.

With no tax and mot, its barley worth that.. V6 facelifts have become almost impossible to sell.

what would be a realistic value with the problems sorted ?
if you start there you could think about how much to subtract
