Probably changed battery within three weeks ;D ordered it off e-bay before going to Hong Kong took ages to arrive . But if battery was flat would this still make a differance?

Put key in ign & turn on - no need to start.
Press one or the other of the button ons the fob, the central locking will lock & unlock.
 Key sync'd.  :y

 Just looking at your car ..... I'm not sure it'll work on a car THAT old.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  :y

 Strange thing though ,

Just tried the same procedure with the key that does work and nothing happens when I press the button with key in ignition and ignition turned on :-?

Car is definitly 1998 :-[ miny facelift so you'd think it would work with the operational key but not the 'dead' key , odd :-?

I would suspect the solder joint between the circuit board & the battery contact
It's worth resoldering to eliminate that as the cause
 Takes seconds to do
 :) :)

The battery holder bent a little as I was taking the battery out but didnt seem to be damaged at all , will have a closer look at holder and soldered joints tomorrow :y

 Nice one Pitchfork :y

Had a closer look at key today and had a poke around , thought as key's not working got nothing to loose anyway one of the contacts was broken .  :D

Thinking back I dropped the key just before it stopped working so maybe this broke the connection in the first place :(

Still don't know why the key re-set with key in ignition doesn't seem to work though , nothing happened with either key . Never mind happy now got 2 functioning keys again [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif]

On my 98 TD estate, you have to switch the engine on and press the close button on the remote within 30 seconds to re-sync the key. Central locking pops up and down to tell you it's been done. I have to re-sync it on a daily basis though.  :(
