Hi Richie
That's a bit of an issue you have there, if your level is correct it will pour out when you begin removing the pan, ive never had this problem but perhaps someone could confirm if you remove the hoses on the cooler pipes perhaps you can remove enough oil from there but more than likely i think your going to have to catch the oil as it comes out, break the seal and then leave it until it stops, then you know its level with the pan.
Unless you get another pan then you could drill a hole or something.
Yes you will need to replace the gasket, to be honest you might as well change both (the smaller pan aswell) as that will contain at least a litre of old oil and the internal filter.
No sealant is required just the two gaskets and filter, Autovaux can supply all that.
refill with Dextron III, if there is not a how 2 on here then i will tell you how.
Good luck :y
Oh and i don't see why you cant replace the nut with whatever you like as long as you use a new copper washer.

how do you refill the box tho ? :-/

how do you refill the box tho ? :-/
Basically in two stages
Stage 1:
Get the car on flat surface, no need to jack it up
Remove the filler nut and fill with DEX III until it begins to flow out
Replace filler nut
Stage 2:
Start the engine and run it up to temperature
Leave the engine running and remove the filler plug
Refill again until the fluid begins to come out
Refit filler nut
Job done
* I find it easier to get a transparent tube just over a meter long (from hardware store) that will fit on the DEX III bottle, hold that up with one hand (leaning against the drivers door, right side), and the other hand hold the end of the tube down in the gearbox filler hole, the gravity will flow the fluid down.

Done my fluid and filter recently. Real messy job. if you can get your car up on 4 axle stands it is a lot easier.
If you cant get the level plug out and drain down to that level first, you are going to get a lot of fluid on the deck ( or into a big drain tray of some kind)
I then slacked all bolts a few turns, then left just four in place while I put a small trolley jack under sump just touching . Then removed last 4 bolts and gently let jack down while holding sump pan with other hand.
If you change filter, watch out as about half litre of fluid comes out as you take it off.
Same thing with trolley jack on small sump.
Try and find my posting from end of March about re -filling. Got 7 litres into mine in about 10 mins via funnel and tube from engine bay.
Mine is a 3.0 - but the filter was in the larger sump not the small one
Good luck -- But it is MESSY ! ;D :y :y :y

oh it stinks too! you will need some washining up liquid to get the oil out your hair. ;D ;D ;D

2 sumps. Small one is in front of big one. Filler is on drivers side of big sump.

cheers tb, i'll have another attempt this morning then

To be clear
- there are two sumps
- both need to come off to do a thorough fluid change
- the big one houses the filter, and the drain/fill plug is also on the big (rear most) sump
I am not sure which nut you are trying to undo on the small sump - can only be one of the many bolts holding it on as far as I recall..
The drain plug is on the drivers side wall of the big sump - about the same size as an engine sump plug - difficult to miss when you are under there.

I didn't have a problem getting it out of my hair though Marie (and sadly not because I didn't spill any..) ;)
