Title: Washer pumps
Post by: MaxV6 on 13 April 2008, 21:35:39
Do i REALLY have to remove the entire sodding front bumper to replace the washer pumps???

or is it do-able with a bit of contortionist effort??

Remove grill, then you can get in there.  Don't do it after you've used car, as fans can start without warning!

I can answer this as I replaced the washer bottle on my '99 car today!!!  You should be able to get to them by removing the grill, although you really would benefit from child-like or pikey hands!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Failing that, the bumper isn't that hard to remove. I fitted new pads all round, washer bottle and cleaned all washer jets, and a few other odds and sods, washed the car (all be it a little half heartedly) all in about 4 1/2 hours, including dodging the rain and a few short tea breaks!!

Removing bumper doesn't actually give much more room

cheers chaps....   very enlightening....  the photo's in the haynes book of lies were so shit as to be useless.......  and they insisted on removing the bumper (and wheel arch liner etc...   )

seemed a bit OTT for a bloody washer pump....

will do it before going anywhere for the day... so as not to have hands removed by "surprise cooling"

I beg to differ TB... When I removed the bumper, including the metal bumper behind, the washer bottle came with the metal bumper! Makes it a doddle to do!!!!  :y :y :y

Ah, the metal bit, yes.  I wouldn't recommend that, as its a right pig to get back on ;D

It did require a little of the special lever bar treatment!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Wasn't too bad though, in all seriousness, I could get 3 of the bolts to line up no problems so did that and had a gentle lever to get the 4th in. Couldn't see a better way of changing the bottle!

Took me about five minutes to get the bumper skin off and on again to change my washer pump. No great shakes really :y
