Title: propshaft bearing

hi has anybody changed the propshaft bearing the one that bolts to the middle of the car if so is the bearing a main dealer part and how much does it roughly cost.

Yep....its about 20 quid (might be a little less), can be also got from any prop shaft specialist (there is an online in south wales somewhere but they were no cheaper than Vx)

Check also the rubber mount (this is expensive!) although you should be able to re-use it.

Drop the front prop off (need to give it a sharp pull to get it off the splines.

Remove the heats shields and drop the rear prop out (which is what the bearing is attached to).

Carefuly prise the rubber mount off the prop bearing and then use a puller to pull the bearing off.

When you re-assemble the whole thing, look at the splines as there is a master spline which has to be aligned with the same in the front part of the prop. I normally find them when its off the car and mark th positions on the prop to aid fitting although you could mark both parts before removal.

Mark you wouldn't happen to know how much the rear rubber donut ring that seperates the diff and prop shaft is or where I can get one other than the main dealers?

I've got a squeeking sound coming from the rear of my car everytime I boot it. This ring is the only thing left I can think thats causing it.

second hand is a good option as they rarely fail.
