my drives door window gets about 3/4 the way down and then gets stuck, it's like it is getting blocked by something.
any common faults or solutions anyone knows of/

I probably just needs lubricating. Remove the door car and plastic membrane and give everything a spray with WD40. On the window runners use a nylon lubricant so as not to damage the rubber (Holts to an electric window lubricant specifically for this job). Just make sure while you there that the window glass is correctly seated on its runner.

Personally I would NOT use WD40 - a grossly overused product !! WD40 is a "water dispersent" NOT a lubricant, and the carrier solvent can cause havoc on many plastics, causing them to go to a soggy mess.
As a lubicant old fashioned "3-in-1" is far better, and for window runners I use a silicon spray .. available from many places (including maplins !!)

I have just freed up my rear nearside window (it would autoretract on closing all the time). I used a can of W5 silicon lube - cost 99p from lidl's but has done the job. No dismantling at all I simply sprayed it over where the window and runners meets the felt frames etc - it took about ten or so full up and down movements to work the lube down the runners and it working properly. I have sprayed all the other window runners too just as a preventative measure.
I would be careful of removing the front door card and spraying inside etc if you have side airbags. These airbags are apparently controlled from a pressure sensor inside the front door - and as mentioned earlier the door is sealed with a membrane to prived pressure in a prang to set the bags off.
If you do take the membrane off you must make sure it seals properly when refitting. Just be careful eh!

If it sounds like it's being obstructed by something solid, check the condition of the door strap mechanism. My 2.0l driver's door strap started to jam half way through opening and closing until it finally broke inside the door, but before it did so it fouled the window operating mechanism and I assume it in some way forced the arm out of its socket, so stopping the window from operating although the motor is still working. If the same thing has happened on yours, perhaps there's a simple obstruction fouling the window mechanism.
I still haven't got round to fixing mine by the way. :-[

Sounds like what shyboy and myself have had happened.
the dorr strap mechanisum fouls the window guide denting and buckling it. so even it you repair the door strp mech you will still have the same problem and need to replace the window guide.
i have just fixed all mine and now you would never know it had happened. :)
