Does anyone know when the TC button moved from the area to left of radio up to above radio on prefacelifts?
I think I know the answer, but just what to confirm if its other peoples experience.
-
When they changed to mini-facelift, so 98ish :-/
-
i have minifacelift, 98. back of traction control button switch is present behind satnav screen, same size as taller button, but button not present, not even rerouted to where blank switch was above radio. traction control appears to be automatic with no option to switch off. this may have been a different story if i didnt have satnav fitted. dont know if that helps or confuses the issue for you!!?

Have r reg estate - tc switch to left of radio - reg early 98
s- reg saloon - tc switch above radio - reg later 98
Will find out month of reg for both & post if that helps

Is the R reg a mini facelift (last letter of VIN a W)?

Excellent. So an early mini facelift.
Don't suppose you want to check how your Carin is connected to main body loom ::)

I think it changed fairly early on in 1998 model year. I think if you have TC button to left of radio, I think the plug to connect carin loom to body loom is missing.
So, now I need to find someone with early 98 one and carin to check how its wired in :P

Its the carin bit I need checking. In passenger kick panel, carin loom (6 wires) joins body loom. On later 1998 cars there is a 6 way connector, as described in http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1202730965
Looking to see if there is something I've missed, before I start attacking the main loom :'(

'k, as soon as i get a chance i will check it out for you. might not be til the weekend so if anyone else can answer you before then by all means go for it

Elite estate - r-reg - first reg 13/5/98
Elite saloon - s-reg - first reg 1/8/98
Neither has satnav.
Hope this helps

I've moved my TC from button next to radio to above it :y
Still need to work out how they wired in Carin on the early 98s - though I'm guessing spliced in to loom :'(

surely the carin will only need permanant live and switched live and earth ?? poss sidelight feed ?? :(

And speed signal. And reverse signal. And something else I can't remember. Its actually 7 connections.

Speed signal is available on the HU loom isn't it - for the Speed Dependent Volume control?

Part of the dead reckonning system I guess - same reason it needs speed signal :-/
-
Because the Nav system wouldn't know, if you reversed off your drive for example, if that was forward or backwards hence would start giving you false 'perform a U turn' instructions?
.....or am I way off track? Was just thinking about the age of these Carin systems.

The earlier systems relied on more than just satnav signal - they still work without sats (dead reckonning), based on accelerometers, and signals regarding car speed etc. I guess its to do with that.
(This is the reason why built in systems are better than portables under certain conditions - cities, woods, tunnels etc)
