Firstly i would like to apologise for all the questions. So heres two more ;D I have got a light knocking noise coming from bottom of engine/gearbox on tickover. :-/ When I slowly raise the rpm the noise goes after about 2000rpm. It also disappears after a good run (10 miles to work) :-? Any ideas guys??
Also I had an oil leak from cam cover gaskets which was leaking quite badly. The oil used to start smoking from the heat of the engine. This was sorted on saturday but im still getting smoke from engine after a good run (again 10 miles to work) Is this the old oil burning off still??
TIA :y
-
Yes the old oil can take a while to burn off.
-
yeah old oil burning off the manifold, mine took about 2 weeks to completley disapear.
-
The noise may well be a tired oil pump, hence when revs increase and or the oil gets hot it stops :-/
-
How much and how easy to fix??
-
If I knew where the oil pump was I could sort you one for very little money mate...I'm sure someone will be able to tell me :)
-
so do we defo think its the oil pump. Will ask one of the lads at the meet on sunday for a second opinion before I rip her to bits again :y

Autobox oil pump? It's...inside the autobox. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1183142571 STEP 9 - oil pump.
It might be TC as well but I don’t know what kind of sounds it makes when knackered.
It's really hard to tell where the knocking sound is comming from (might be engine). You have to get under the car and check it (safety first)

mmmm, oil pump in gearbpx. never thought of that. Would it be tc while engine is stood still tho?? Wouldnt it just make a bad noise while it was working if fubar'd :-/

Anyone :-/ :'( :'( :'(

FWIW, I have noticed a light knocking at idle from the sump area that disappears as soon as the engine is lifted above idle on several V6s I have worked on. I have no idea what it might be but I doubt it's worth tearing the engine apart for.

My old 2.5 used to do it, never bothered me, never got any worse

Hmmm. It became louder when I did an oil change on her last saturday so must be something oil related. Ok thanks for replies guys :y

Any history of the engine having flush through it?
Was the oil very dirty at any point?
If yes to any of the above then its worth dropping the bottom sump pan off (not hard) and checking for crudd in the pan and on the oil pickup.

change asap :-/
-
Will do thanks. Would i need to get new oil and filter as was only changed a week ago. :-/
-
If you are dropping the oil again and then removing the bottom pan I would suggest oil and the filter. Filters are not dear.

Right thanks ;)
