hiya,,
as anyone had this problem before???
whilst driving there is a ticking or clicking noise from under the car or wheels,, i`ve jacked each corner up separately and spun each wheel but no noise,, the prop shaft turned and no noise,, checked tyres for stones but found none, thinking maybe its gearbox i then jacked up one side and engaged D but no noise,,,
its only whilst moving on the road,, in D or N,, the noise is related to speed,,
any advise on what to do next ????
thanks

have you checked to make sure there is nothing in the tyres? ie nail or tack etc, i have a similar prob that was driving me mad! turned out to be a tack in the tyre.

opps sorry (somehow) i missed that you said that.
Can you determine where abouts the noise it coming from? also does it go away if you lightly pull on the handbrake?

Getting to the more esoteric fault finding .. have you tried jacking the whole back end off the ground and actually running in gear ?? That should help eliminate any drive train noises. If that is all quiet then it comes down to individual wheel areas, and probably the front wheels at that.
Could also be something caught in the front disk brake shields, in the Granny I had a bit of wire get caught in the front, brake disk was rubbing on it .. took ages to find it :(

i only jacked one rear wheel up and engaged D the rear wheel spun as did the prop,,, i listened but couldnt hear the ticking,,, i will try will both wheels tho,,,
i`ve jacked up each corner and spun each wheel for a minute ( thats all i could manage,, ha ha) no ticking.
just thinking that i dont know if it happens in reverse,, i`ll try that tomorrow,,,

This might sound stoopid -- but --- are you sure it's coming from the wheel / floorpan area ? You know how sounds travel!
Have you checked that there isn't a loose bit of trim or suchlike?
I mention this cos I read of a guy driven mad by an unidentified regular clunk --- it wasn't until he decided ( for unconnected reasons) to get rid of his mickey mouse aerial topper from the end of his roof mounted antenna that the noise ( mysteriously!!) stopped. ::)

dont worry it doesnt sound stupid,, i once changed oil in my gearbox,, changed wheel bearing only to discover the noise was coming from my roof rack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! many years ago..
it could be trim touching the wheels because obversery when the car is on ground the wheels are closer to the body,,, cant see anything but not like i can look while driving,, ha ha this wouldnt make a differance to the prop would it????? would the prop move up and down are is it just the drive shafts???
