Title: Taping noise from engine,
Post by: billfxtwo on 05 May 2008, 17:40:59
I have just recently had the head gasket done on my Wreg omega 2ltr, the car is running fine and is not using any water at all, but now it seems to be a taping noise on tic over and pinking a bit, I have put some hydraulic valve lifter treatment in to see if this would get rid of the noise but still there I am warred that its coming from the bottom off the engine , can anyone give me any advice on this,   Thanks Bill

pinking, sounds like ignition timing.was cam belt put back on correctly eg is it a tooth or 2 out of postiton.

If it really is pinking it could be that the head skim took enough off to raise the compression enough to pink.

Not sure about the 2.0 but the V6's have knock sensors so they should detect the pink and back the timing off - which means they can't pink.

So cam timing would be my favourite.

Thank you all for the replies, the pinking is very slight, in fact it maybe just me in my head lol, but it’s the taping that’s getting to me

How bad did the head gasket go was the oil turned to baby poo??
If it was they should of really changed the tappets.
If it wasn`t that bad then it may be the oil is the wrong grade and too thin or they flushed the system and the new oil needs to thinken up abit first.

I changed the oil myself with a 10/40 which I always us I forgot to give it a flush, do you think it would be a good idea to flush it through and us a thicker oil

Hope this isn't the same as my old V6. That started to rattle a few thousand miles after the head gaskets were done. I tried the same things as you, but it eventually threw one of the bottom shells out the piston. It was explained to me that by skimming the heads, it had increased the compression which had put more pressure on my old pistons which caused  one of them to fail. If you can't cure it soon, get it back to the garage who did your head gasket.

This taping noise you mention - sellotape, masking tape or electrical tape?  Sorry, couldn't resist.   :y
