Hi,
I have just (today) bought myself a 2.5 Estate but the air con is not working. In fact there are 2 problems.
1) It does not blow cold, I am hoping its just in need of a regas as according to the extensive history, it has not been done since June '06.
2) I can't get any air to come out of any of the face vents. as you move the air selector round it blows to the floor or windscreen. Either, the feed hose for them has come off or I thought maybe the switch is not selecting that area - dodgy switch.
Any ideas on either point? Fingers are firmly crossed for the regas!!
Thanks
Mike

Yeah, that's what I thought?

First thing that needs checking is if the system has any gas in it, if it does then it might simply be a case of low gas pressure, if it doesn't then we are into leak territory.
As for the re-circ setup, you need to check if there is a good vac supply getting to the vent dials from the engine/vac pump (in the case of diesels).
I would also be tempted to pop the vent control lump off and chekc the vac pipes are all still connected.
Also, what position is the screen shown as on the dials, 12 Oclock or 4 Oclock

If you can't get air to come out of the vents when you're simply trying to blow ambient air in - i.e. air con switched off and recirculation switched off as well, then that's a problem seperate to regassing...

Update...
With regards to number 2, I have taken the heater controls out and the switch that adjusts where the air is to come out has a vacuum pipe missing.
I put my fat arm as far in the dash as I could and couldn't find a loose one, I even asked my 11 year old daughter to have a go, but we found nothing. Where does that pipe go? Would I do better to attack it from the other end?
The screen outlet is at 12 'o'clock.
Thanks

I think one of the switch ports is supposed to be open, it admits air to allow an 'off' air motor to return to its normal position.
I think Marks question relates to there being different panels around, he probably wants to check that someone hasnt fitted a wrong replacement panel. He will be back on-line in a day or so.
Check carefully for any hiss indicating a disconnected vac. pipe, if OK then listen for sound of the air motors moving and check that they move their associated flap, I wonder if the face vent flap is disconnected?
The a/c is a separate issue...deal with that once you have the vents working.

Yes, I know now that the cause of the face vents missing is a vacuum hose not connected to the back of the direction switch. Thing is, I can't locate the hose when the heater controls are out and I wondered where the other end of them is so that I can trace it back from there.
The car had a car kit in it in the photos in the Autotrader advert, but this had been removed when I collected the car. I think someone pull the wires through and as a result has pulled the hose off.
I am going to take it for a regas at the end of the month so hopefully I will have cold air coming in, but I won't be able to direct it to the face vents until I connect this hose
Thanks
Mike
