Well after much thinking and several beers! I decided it was best to keep my Double Din unit. I was going to loose too much money on it replacing with single DIN.
So I decided make that unit fit, and work!
First problem was the cage as too big, almost half a cm!! Grrrr damn Vauxhalls. So I got some Tin cutters and cut the top off the cage, sorry there are not pictures of this, but in the heat and my frustation i thought it was not wise to have an expensive object near me! ::)
So if you imaine a standard HU cage, i cut the top off so it only had 3 sides. After 2 cut fingers, some TCP and a plaster later it was cut down to size.
And it was still a !"&^$%! b!tch to fit in, in the end i used small blocks of wood about an 1inch sqaure and a mallet to get the damn thing in!! But i was worth it.
The headunit now slides in and clicks and holds were it should, here are some pictures of my progress so far:

After messing around with the settings, i got rid of the crappy animations that went on, horrible horrible animations. Looks better just displaying the track name

I have an Aux lead (RCA to headphone) jacking going to the glovebox

The Sub, this Vibe Active unit is amazing!! So powefull! with the boot closed and Ski hatch shut, it still feels like someone is punching the back of my seat! :o

Please excuse the mess in the boot!
I have on order a facia adaptor, thats next on my list to modify so it fills the gap between the HU and the side buttons.
-
Thats looking good Mark
Would love to go at something like this for the Omega but need the boot space for the golf clubs :(
-
Golf clubs! :o
Plenty of room for them even with the Sub in there, depends how many clubs you want to take!
Pleased so far with the install, just getting the facia to blend in nicely is the troube.
That Vibe unit is so powerfull it vibrates the boot and the back bumper! :)
-
told you them vibe active subs are quality ;) really punch hard ;D
-
You could have taken those filters out and chucked them away - they've been there since Sat!
BTW, I have a spare sump plug now. Flipping expensive though (over £3 + VAT). Thieving bastards...

Oh dear - I'm not old enough for golf

You ain't got room anyway - you've filled your boot with LPG tanks....

Does look like good kit and quite good in the car - don't think I'd have the patience! Although I did strip down a Senator heater control to replace a peanut bulb inside. Once.

£3!! Gits!!
We can settle up on everything during the week?
I know about the stuff in to boot i forget about it, still got a BT Converse Phone in there with Plantronics Headset, why i leave that in the boot i don't know! Bit OTT as a car phone! ;D
I highly recommend the Vibe unit, wow! It really feels like some burly bloke is sitting behind me punching the seat!

Smart bit of kit tunnie am I right in thinking your still using the standard door speakers, or do you have plans to get those upgraded aswell.

Still using standard door speakers, I find them to be excellent. Even better now with an after-market headunit.
No plans to change them, doing a brilliant job. Apparently they are much better when amped, but due to the lack of space behind the HU i won't be doing that, but really there is no need to. The standard speakers give excellent clarity and impressive bass.

Maybe looking to do something similar eventually, granted the missus dont like that sort of thing, she says my current speakers are loud enough, but if the sound is improved with the sub I may go that way.
-
The Sub makes a massive differnce, really lifts the tunes and gives the bass type tracks more lift, something like Nelly - Maneater. Its wow in my car now due to the punch i get in the seat.
Still regreting the double din route... probably should have gone single din but then again it does fit the space nicely.
Got the facia today and wondering how to cut the slot bigger for the double din HU
-
Have you still got the top section you cut off the cradle only you could position it and it should give you some idea of what need taking off the new facia for it to fit properly.
Hope this make sense.

Well 2 problems with that the cage is now jammed in the console and i chucked the other bit away :(
More problems though...
This Facia i bought is a Single DIN adaptor for the omega, fits fine.... BUT the gap for the headunit is about 2 cm's too wide!!! >:(
It means there is about a cm gap either side of the HU before it reaches the facia!!!
For !%^$£"! god damn "!%^$&! sake!! >:( >:( >:(
Omega & Double Din is like Electricity and Water! >:(

Do Vx not do a double din adapter at all?
-
Thought about getting some black silicone sealer, and fill the gap that way, with a bit of practise you can be neat with that stuff.
Failing that some 'ronseal no more big gaps' does exactly what it says on the tin!

Not that i know of, if you see one let me know ASAP!!
Not keen on black silicone sealer, think that will look quite bad considering most of the buttons are grey. Also its quite a large gap and the buttons on the side half to move in and out and a silicone sealer will make pushing the buttons harder.
Seriously pi$$ed off now...

Hi there
Been looking around to see if there is any available Double din fascias for the omega, with no luck
Try contacting these people as they maybe able to source one for you.

They have the one you have with the tray underneath but they may have something for your radio.
Worth asking

1) Chop a single DIN to fit
2) Make one out of MDF
3) Make one out of Plasticard
4) Take a mould of single DIN, modify mould to double DIN, cast some in GRP
-
I could chop the single din to fit height wise, no problem. But its already too wide, so a 1/2 cm gap each side the HU is still visable, silicone stuff is not suitable.
MDF is possible, and best to work with in terms of standing down to size. Worried about the looks afterwards, even if its painted black
Never worked with Plasticard, will google that. Think i may find MDF easyier and I already have all the tools to work with wood.
GRP?
Nixoro, I used lowcostcaraudio for my present facia plate. I too have searched long and hard for double din face plate, Autoleads do one for the Vw Golf but not the Omega.
Its a shame cause its the same shape as the Corsa console, and thats one of the most modified cars around! Grrrr >:(
Might pop into the town and buy some MDF!

You defo want something you can un-do later if you decide to - you're going to be looking at it for a long time.

Surely the double din comes with a surround for it to......

It comes with a nicer edge thing to it, but its far too small. I have some odd bits of plastic around might see what i have
-
Tunnie have you contacted Vx to see if they do a Double din face plate for the facelift model, they must have something available what with all the new aftermarket double din units available now.

You would have thought so, contacted Vx Northampton Dealer - Spoke to the parts dept, there bright responce was.....
"Have you tried Halfords Sir?"
>:(
-
That ridiculous, surely they should have made provisions for a double din unit.
Shall keep looking.
Do any of the other omega design cars have a similar dash with double din.
ie the holden commodore, Cadillac Catera
Maybe worth doing some investigation
