I’m looking at two Sealey torque wrenches, a ¼” and a ½”.
The ¼” is 5-25NM and comes with a calibration certificate while the ½” is 27-140NM and is “factory set”. How accurate is factory set and should I even be considering a torque without first calibrating it?

There is a torque wrench review in the product reviews section on the auto express website,.

I bought a Halfords 3/8", 8-60nm which came with a calibration certificate.

Sealey is good stuff and a factory set one is pretty much the same as one with a calibration certificate (hence there is likely to be little difference beteen the two) basicaly both have been set at the factory.

Used my Halfords trade card, saved £10. Seems a nice tool, and the review is good.

I ought to buy one rather than borrow - or just do up effing tight for tow bar ;D

Machine Mart do 2 reasonably priced ones.

There is a Machine Mart near me - might have a look next weekend

Be careful when looking at small torque wrenches, many of the cheaper ones or those offered on ebay are similar range to the larger ones, ie start at 18 or 20NM, you want something which starts around 5 or 6 NM.
A calibration certificate is needed by anyone carring out safety related work, it doesnt mean the tool is more accurate, its more to do with buck passing if HSE come visiting.

Thanks for the replies folks.
I was planning to get both the 1/4" and the 1/2" torque, as my existing socket rules out a single 3/8", but was worried that one might need further calibration.
Since it doesn't, I'll get my order in. :)
