Title: Prob with the omega
Post by: fordy on 09 May 2008, 21:16:34
I have a problem with my omega. Hope its a small problem, When driving it will sometimes just cut out. Got to put it in N and turn the key to start it again. Today it happens 5 times in about 30 mins, parked up and drove home about 45mins later. It was then fine all the way home. It has a smallish oil leak, would that be anything to do with it.

update your profile.

we don't know what engine your refering to.

petrol/diesel?

2.0/2.2/2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2???

I suspect you have a V6.

Read the fault codes, i bet you will get a 19 which is crank sensor

cutting out at traffic lights ?? and does it loose power briefly with the ECU light on? if its cutting out on idle it will most likely be the crank sensor  ill check my vx trade book for a price on one for you when i pop out for a ciggy

very easy job to fix

Cuts out when driving. I think it maybe idleing a little low, just over 500 but that varies too. No warning or nothing just dies, but starts up fine when i try.

my mv6 done this and it was the sensor

if its idling low / strange replace the crank sensor and clean the idle air control valve

cost of a crank sensor for you car is

if it has an X20XE 2.0 lump its £42.00

if it has a  X20XEV engine then its £24.16 these are for genuine vx sensors and are trade club prices

as your in cheltenham your vx stealer is Baylis vauxhall same as myn so i can arange the trade discount for you if you need a crank sensor or any other mig bits

Had the exact same problem on the wifes 2.0 last week, I was advised on here to clean the IACV and the throttle body, took about an hour and it cured the problem totally.

I bought a can of 3 in 1  grease cleaner from Halfords ( a new product) and it cleans like magic!

There are easy to follow instructions in the maintenance section.
