Title: Autobox emptying DexIII
Post by: HerefordElite on 11 May 2008, 11:18:33
Gave the old girl a treat yesterday - air filter, oil change and fuel filter.

While I had the car up in the air and level on 4 axle stands i thought i'd check gearbox oil level coz not convinced it's driving as it should.

followed M-DTM's guide and started her up in park and then took out level plug - as expected nothing came out indicating either perfect level (not likely ;)) or low level.
Got me squeezy bottle of DexIII and started trying to squirt it in (sh1t design >:() suddely oil started emptying out as if it was syphoning and wouldn't stop!!!! i had to scrabble around for the plug and ram it back in :o sure more oil came out than went in :'(

have i done something wrong or what :-[

Yes, the box should be cycled through the gears to make sure that the torque converter is full of oil before the level plug is removed.

understand what you saying but not exactly as per Mark's instructions - and he is the all knowing humble one ::)

If you raised JUST the driver side and had the engine running - when the oil starts to come out is when it's time to lower it, let level settle, and refit the plug...

I have my own way of doing this, but it's not very ethical, so I won't advise on it ;D ;D

ethics are out the window when it comes to AR35's - spill the beans or PM me if it's that bad ;)

thing is if i had it level with all 4 wheels off the deck coz i was doing jobs front and back at same time then it should still fill if empty or pour out if overfull??

can the box play up if over filled? or just start blowing seals?
